this vituperation reserved for young parents

for young mothers I suppose is what I mean, since people often only mention the father as a bit of an afterthought. Can someone explain why this special scorn is saved for young and unmarried women, particularly when plenty of us here have reproduced within really quite grim marriages?

I have to say my family is a bit of a statistic dream really, my great gran, gran, mum and I all had children in our teens.

But we were all good parents and we have all worked to support our children as well as all but me being married to the father at the time (I had been with DP for 5 years and we are still together 5 years on).

I have no idea why young mothers are targetted so much but it really pisses me off when people assume that I am a single parent on benefits, infact I left a good job to move area and decided to be a SAHM whilst DP works and I am back to college this year when DS starts school so not exactly sponging (although we do get Tax Credits as DP's wage is crap!)
