To expect people to drive faster than 20 mph???

Because not a daygoes by where i am not stuck behind at least one idiot who wants to trundle along at 19-20mph in a 30 limit.

When i learnt to drive i was told to drive at the speed limit when it was safe and appropriate to do so.

So why do people o it? Do you drive around at a snails pace and if so why?

Im not talking about racing round like an idiot, but just drive the speed limit fgs

I quite often drive at 20 in a 30 zone if it's appropriate. Mindlessly driving at the maximum legal speed isn't actually good driving, you know.

ratspeaker · 18/03/2011 20:09

Are you sure its a 30mph limit?
I only ask as we have a road that goes past 3 schools, it's a 20mph limit but I always have someone right on my bumper when I drive along
They dont seem to realise the speed limit

Or maybe their car wants to mate with mine

mousesma · 18/03/2011 20:09

Agree with tinierclanger you should drive to suit the conditions. Too many people see the speed limit as the minimum speed everyone should be driving instead of the maximum.

mosschops30 did point out "to drive at the speed limit when it was safe and appropriate to do so."

I know exactly what you mean mosschops. I live in a village with a 30mph speed limit. Once you leave the village the national speed limit applies - 60mph. Sometimes on a nice clear day I get stuck behind people dawdling along at 30 mph which is half the speed limit. While I don't tear around the countryside it can get extremely frustrating being stuck behind someone who just dawdles along. It is also inconsiderate towards other road users.

On the A9 in Scotland they have signs up every few miles stating "Frustration kills. Slow drivers please pull in and let other vehicles past" or something to that effect.

mosschops30 · 18/03/2011 20:16

If ypu read my OP i say 'when its safe and appropriate to do so'.

Obviously if the traffic is very busy, or school run time then you should drive accordingly. But these are different roads at different tmes of day.

My faveourite is at 6.30 in the morning when im on my way to work.

Do you live near my MIL by any chance? Grin

amerryscot · 18/03/2011 20:22

I slow down when an idiot is driving up my backside. If they are going to run into me, I would prefer it to be at 20mph rather than 30.

I do like to give them an opportunity to overtake me, however.

I read this and thought you must have been stuck behind me on my lesson today Grin

I often do 20 in a 30 zone if there are lots of zebra crossings / schools or if it is raining. Am I being unreasonable driving to the conditions?

southeastastra · 18/03/2011 20:29

it's annoying i agree

DesperateHousewife20 · 18/03/2011 20:29

LOL bluddymofo! that made me laugh, my first car was like that!

I HATE getting stuck by a slow driver, esp on a 60mph road.

I also hate arrogant fuckwits that overtake me even though Im doing 55/60 mph and then he gets stuck behind a bus Grin and why are they ALWAYS in a BMW?

tinierclanger · 18/03/2011 20:35

I was actually slightly lazy reading the op. Blush but possibly your definition of appropriate doesn't coincide with others.
