Poor Whitney.

Its well written though. I work with sex workers and this is one of ways pimps get girls working. Nasty.

YANBU.

Me too, I think I will be turning it off if this story line carries on.

Enough in real life without it being on the telly.

girliefriend · 17/03/2011 19:44

it is pretty grim.............. Sad

GypsyMoth · 17/03/2011 19:45

eastenders writers cant win can they!!?

iamamug · 17/03/2011 19:46

It's creeping me out and a bit early?? Am I being prudish??

NorthernGobshite · 17/03/2011 19:47

ILoveTIFFANY I'm not knocking it, I think its really well written. Can feel uncomfortable whilst appreciating the story can't I?

Not prudish and not something a child should be watching.

It is well written but it is bloody awful to watch but then that depends on your previous experiences I guess.

NorthernGobshite · 17/03/2011 19:48

EastEnders isn't for children to be fair.

FourFortyFour · 17/03/2011 19:49

Exactly.

DuplicitousBitch · 17/03/2011 19:49

stop watching it then, its not compulsory - thank god

NorthernGobshite · 17/03/2011 19:49

Its very true to life. I work with sex working women. Its scarily accurate.

I thought it was very well done. Poor Whitney's had some really harrowing story lines.

I found tonight's episode gripping but upsetting.

sailorsgal · 17/03/2011 21:02

I found it hard to watch too. I think it should be aired later in the evening not at 7.30pm.

Sarahlou8 · 17/03/2011 21:14

My 12 year old daughter watches Eastenders, has done for a while and I've always been quite happy but I felt uncomfortable watching it with her when tonights episode was shown.
I think 7.30pm is too early - but then if you follow a soap, you follow it whatever the storyline and whatever the time it's shown.

notnowbernard · 17/03/2011 21:16

What's the storyline? (sorry!)

Haven't watched for yonks

Sarahlou8 · 17/03/2011 21:19

Whitney is being groomed into prostitution.

AllDirections · 17/03/2011 21:20

I wish I'd had time to watch it from the beginning of this story line and with my teenage daughter. It would be good for teenagers to recognise how this can happen so they won't get taken in by these horrible men!

Thingumy · 17/03/2011 21:23

I think it's excellent storyline for teenage girls to watch.

Surely a prime time soap who dares to broach this vile subject can only a good thing.

squeakytoy · 17/03/2011 21:25

It is very very easy for young teenage girls to get sucked into the sort of thing that is happening to Whitney. If it makes just one girl think twice, then it has done its job.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 17/03/2011 21:28

I think it's really well written and acted although I have no knowledge of the subject matter. This is one of the reasons that the baby swap story pissed me off. They can do issues and realism really really well when they want to, they don't need sensationalist shite.

SnowdropsMakeMeSmile · 17/03/2011 21:29

It's a comic relief-related storyline, it comes to a head tomorrow night (comic relief) in a special 15 minute episode.

Mandy2003 · 17/03/2011 21:30

I agree, it is a good thing for young teenagers to be watching (with an adult, hopefully).

I don't have daughters but was watching with DS, so when Whitney's "boyfriend" was in the room with her I said, "Pimp!" to warn DS what was coming (he has played Vice City BTW). DS said "No, he's just her boyfriend" which shows how easy it is to be taken in. So if I was watching with a young girl we could have had the grooming discussion.

NorthernGobshite · 17/03/2011 22:03

I agree that a good way to begin talking to girls about this. It happens so easily..."he loves me...he just needs me to help him out with money...etc etc" and young vulnerable girls fall for the slimy pimps. Pimps are good at what they do sadly.

I would have let my dd watch it if she was older.

If you don't like then don't watch.

I was quite surprised by how well written and developed the story has been to date.

peanutsmuggler · 18/03/2011 12:22

I think it's a good storyline, I just can't stand the twit playing Whitney boyfriend/pimp, anyone remember him on Hells Kitchen a few years ago?

RamblingRosa · 18/03/2011 12:40

I've been trying to place him. What's he been in (haven't seen Hell's Kitchen). Was he in Shameless?
