They went planting trees. I thought they'd be planting maybe a few but tbh expected the focus to be doing quizzes, exercises, listening to someone drone on, not listening to someone drone on, mucking about at the back. but not a bit of it.

24 kids planted THREE HUNDRED AND FIFTY trees. Out in the fresh air, ALL day. DD says it was brilliant.

I'm just amazed. I reckon the national park decided it would be cheaper to get child labour in. I can't quite believe the kids actually did something that obviously needed doing - they contributed rather than getting bored at something meant to be educational. brilliant.

That's great - will you be able to visit the area in years to come so your DD can see 'her' trees grow?

Soups · 16/03/2011 23:00

I bet they're so proud of themselves Grin

Vallhala · 16/03/2011 23:00

Well done those children!

I bet DD sleeps well tonight Hatwoman! :o

perfumedlife · 16/03/2011 23:01

Wow, very impressed. Can we go see them grow? Smile

muminthemiddle · 16/03/2011 23:01

Fantastic!

it's great isn't it? I've so often seen/heard about trips that try too hard to combine education with activity. I reckon the fun they had today and the sense of achievement will have a much greater effect than if they'd spent the day learning about trees and done some token planting.

I recently revisited a place where I planted trees with conservation volunteers about 15 years ago and guess what!

Bigger trees.

Very satisfying.

And good fun at the time, too. Great school trip.
