Cheesy old singers...

Why do so many women find cheesy old male singers so appealing when they are well into middle age, to the extent that they turn into lovestruck teenagers - screaming, swooning, touching themselves intimately at gigs (I've seen this ). There doesn't seem to be much difference in behaviour between Justin Bieber's young fans and the gaggle of fifty-something office workers who gather outside the ITV studios every time Rod Stewart, for example, is appearing on 'This Morning'!

Some I can understand - David Essex, Donny Osmond, David Cassidy are still reasonably attractive, but Tom Jones, Rod Stewart and the sparrow-legged Barry Manilow were never what could be considered as eye-candy, even in their heyday.

Is it all about nostalgia and returning to carefree youth, even if just for a few hours?

AIBU to wonder how a leathery old crooner can turn large numbers of otherwise sensible middle aged women into shrieking, flapping schoolgirls?

I couldn't continue pursuing any of my childhood / youth crushes (well George Michael / Kurt Cobain would be rather pointless) but I am rather fond of a grizzled veteran or several. Mick, Keef, Tom J, Leonard Cohen, Robert Plant, etc

NB: I used to work for a company that released Cliff products and his sales decline is totally related to the mortality of his fans (elderly women) Sad

Daniel O'Donnell is the same - once commanded huge sales of albums / DVDs but now in decline as his fanbase dies off (sorry if this grim)
