To insist on refund/compensation? Expedia

I booked a long haul flight for me and DS to Australia through Expedia(BA). I booked premium economy. On the way out, I didn't get premium economy, I got economy. BA said nothing they could do, Expedia had booked the wrong class of flight with them.
So I emailed Expedia every day to a) complain and b) confirm that my return flight was premium economy.
It took them 9 days to get back to me, no premium economy flights with BA, they will change to Qantas. I said fine, all good.

Now they are saying I am not due a refund for the outbound flight, because it cost them extra to book me on the Qantas flight.

I should insist on the refund right?!
what do you think?

Yes you should insist on the refund. They sold you a premium economy seat and then didn't provide you with one.

Absolutely insist on the refund - not your problem they booked the wrong seats and as a result are out of pocket themselves

I think you need to check the booking confirmation from Expedia. What class seats does it say? If it says 'economy' rather than 'premium economy', then I am afraid that you may not be able to claim any compensation now that the flights have been taken as any mistakes should have been sorted out before. If the confirmation says 'premium economy' then keep on at them!

I can't understand how they can't see that.
also really annoyed because I was going to use the airmiles for me and DS, and now I have airmiles with Qantas who don't fly to Europe or US.
And I am sending them the A$100 phone bill that I ran up to sort it out.

the booking confirmation definitely says prem economy, I have it on email, and printed it out.
It was a cheap deal, but it has Expedia special fare all over it. And I was comparing all the airlines and classes at the time, and I know it was more than a BA economy fare at the time.
