all the people full of shit about the earthquake being down to the so-called mega-moon this weekend (er, a big full moon CANNOT affect tectonic plates shifting, you ignorami),apocalyptic 2012 predictions (hmm yes, the Mayans who couldn't foresee the end of their own civilisation coming...), global warming causing all the recent natural disasters (again, not recycling or turning off the lights isn't going to cause earthquakes.)etc etc etc.

Actually I don't care if you think I am BU, I just need to get this off my chest before I upset some gentle wooooooo-wafting soul, to be honest.

I haven't seen any of this 'crap' anywhere !
Where do you see this - Daily Mail?

GypsyMoth · 15/03/2011 15:02

ArfurBrain · 15/03/2011 15:03

well actually the moon does have an affect on our seas and tides, peoples behaviour etc actually...I dont think you should be so dismissive...

I thought the horrific weather we are all experiencing was down to extreme weather cycles that seem to appear every 8 or so years.

GypsyMoth · 15/03/2011 15:04

facebook???? that explains it then...

LaWeasel · 15/03/2011 15:08

the moon has an effect on tides. But NOT tsunami's! Which are nothing to do with ordinary waves.

Earthquakes are not weather, they have nothing to do with weather.

LaWeasel · 15/03/2011 15:08

rogue apostrophe there. Blush

GoldenBeagle · 15/03/2011 15:08

Knitted - the moon does not cause tsunamis though. Shifting tectonic plates cause earthquakes in the sea, which in turn cause tsunamis. The disaster in Japan is nothing to do with tides, the moon, weather, global warming or people's behaviour.

WinterOfOurDiscountTents · 15/03/2011 15:10

totally agree OP, twat-wankery-woo of the highest order. End of the world is nigh-mongers.

KnittedBreast · 15/03/2011 15:12

What I meant was if the moon can affect behaviour and tidal changes it may well have other affects that we dont know about that could also be doing strange things to our planet.

I am well aware of of what an earth quake is thank you, I just dont think we can dismiss the powerful effects of the moon or sun or other plants on our own.

ArfurBrain · 15/03/2011 15:14

knitted, do i work with you....?

OP posts:
seeker · 15/03/2011 15:15

The moon does not have an effect on people's behaviour either.

WinterOfOurDiscountTents · 15/03/2011 15:17

No, I think we can categorically say that the moon does not affect earthquakes or tsunami's.

KnittedBreast · 15/03/2011 15:19

no you do not.

Arfur if you do not believe that I suggest you ask the police!

ArfurBrain · 15/03/2011 15:19

But thank you, knittedbreast, for coming on here and proving to the others that people DO believe this. I shall make you one of my special tinfoil helmets, if you like?

TheSugarPlumFairy · 15/03/2011 15:20

i am with you OP. Have heard numerous theories on this, all of them a bit woooooo.

THe end of the world is not nigh. Natural disasters of all ilks happen all the time. They just usually happen in parts of the world that we (as rich self absorbed westerners) dont really care hear about.

ArfurBrain · 15/03/2011 15:20

Ask the police what?

OP posts:
ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 15/03/2011 15:21

Thank you ArfurBrain.

I told my mum about the quake/tsunami the day it happened as she hadn't seen the news and she was asking me if I thought it was going to be the end of the world.

No. It was an earthquake. They have them every week over there in the pacific. This one was just very big.

Some people are just a little ignorant and don't want to understand the science behind these things.

LaWeasel · 15/03/2011 15:22

the only thing the moon effects is the tide, and it does that in exactly the same way year in year out.

why would it suddenly start doing other crap?

ArfurBrain · 15/03/2011 15:28

Now, don't get me wrong. I am not very clever (the user name is not for effect!) I was rubbish at science at school. I watch the lovely prof Cox and understand around 2 words in 10...
but to go to the other extreme and say: ''ooooooh, there was once an earthquake during a mega-moon and so it MUST be that... tis dark forces of natur','' is a bit primitive.

FWIW knitted, my Dh thinks the moon DOES affect my behaviour - but that is just as likely to be PMT as I am very regular Grin

OP posts:
KnittedBreast · 15/03/2011 15:28

im not sure i was suggesting it would suddenlt start doing other new and interesting things in its spare time, more that maybe the moon, solar flares and other plantet line ups could also have other affects on the changes on our planet that we are unaware of yet.

not really that much of an outhere thought surely?

ArfurBrain · 15/03/2011 15:32

and winter, I love your ''twat-wankery-woo'' Grin
