I used to watch it but we went off series which lasted 2 hours. (Lifes too short)

It never occured to us that there were no black characters in it.

But being as it has be going for 14 years
there has been plenty of opportunity.

I suppose small English villages are still populated by white people.

There was this fuss about Corrie some years ago....

There's lots of places in England where you still don't see many/any black people.

What's the big deal. It's just one TV programme. And a boring one at that.

Well I didn't like it. He has obviously not been to many real villages recently. That or he wants to reinforce some viewers expectations that rural England will forever be whitewashed.

I think they have one eye on the export market when they make Midsomer Murders so no doubt they are trying to reinforce a quanit stereotype of "typical English village."

On that basis I think the fuss is misplaced. After all, if it was a preiod drama no-one would suggest that the ethnic mix paralleled that of modern day Britain.

I thought the fuss wasn't so much over the programme but what one of the makers had said - if you look at what he said, I think he's a bit out of order, but there's nothing much wrong with the TV programme.

OP, yes, it's totally overdone. Just another opportunity to stir up trouble.
