Documenting New babys every move on Facebook

Dear Mumsnetters
The past few weeks I have been struggling to get my head around New Mums who write about their new babys and what they are up to e.g. "he doesnt like banana!" "He has lost his favourite toy!" "She slept for 6 hours last night!" several times a day on Facebook.

I am a new Mum, well 6 months in, and have used Facebook to upload a couple of albums about DS.

Like all new Mums I am incredibly proud and amazed by this new little creature, and find the things he does just fascinating. I also feel sometimes like I am the first woman in the worlds to feel this way! And this is the first little boy to do all these amazing things! And I enjoy all these moments with DS, on my own, and with my DH and friends.
But I have not been inclined to document them all on FB via my newsfeed. And I have two friends who are doing this, ALL THE TIME, and I am thinking 'why'? What is this telling us about being a Mother these days? Where do they get the energy from to go on FB several times a day? Why do this?? Do you have any thoughts on it? Do you find it perplexing (as I do) or even irritating / boring (as one of my friends does) ???

I am a little bit judgey about people who spend their lives on facebook. I have a friend who posts all day long.

If I hide his newsfeed, does that mean I'll never see any messages from him again? I don't really want to do that because very occasionally he'll post something that I am actually interested in.

i agree. ihave a couple of fb acquantances who do it all the time, and theres a definate competitive and smug undertone to all messages.. so ive hidden them but it still pisses me off!

I have a couple of FB friends who post pictures, videos and updates on their PFBs, the second they do anything new - such as sleeping through at 4 weeks or whatever, finger foods, teeth, crawling, standing, walking, saying words - it seems a little bit competitive to me, as if to show off how 'advanced' they are!

I use Facebook to keep in touch with family who are scattered all over the planet. If you find it boring- fair enough, press ignore.

I enjoy reading baby and pregnancy related statuses, I feel happy for the person posting :)

My pet hate is whinging about stupid things (baby or otherwise) that are a bit "no shit sherlock"
Friend of mine posted today complaining that her baby doesnt sleep very well at night but sleeps all day. Hes not even a month old yet... Hmm

PS I post minute details of my PFB as none of my family live close and ask for updates. Hes not just my PFB, hes the PFGC and PFN...

PPS I understand that some people have trouble with their newborns sleeping, I was one of them! But I honestly dont know what some people expect when they decide to have a child!!!!
