I've got morning sickness and it's an hour to hour job working out what I can eat or drink that won't make me gag / feel awful.

Now usually I'm a tap water kinda gal, but at the moment I can't stomach it, or any other kind of drink. Yesterday I discovered ice cold mineral water with lemon slices in goes down reasonably ok.

Soooooooo, DH was off to the supermarket today, so I ask him for a bottle of mineral water. He say's "will the basics 16p stuff do?" I said "but that's not even mineral water!".

Off he went, and brought me back.....16p basics sainsburys table water!!!!

I wasn't asking for Evian, or San Peligrino, just the own-brand stuff that's 60p. Surely if I'm feeling this delicate I can expect to be bought what I asked for?! I know we're in the middle of an economic downturn, but we've got no money problems, he's just stingy!

From someone who suffered hyperemesis in all 3 preganancies, yadnbu.

skybluepearl · 13/03/2011 20:47

yep i agree. you are carrying his unborn child - the least he can do is buy you proper water. if only he could sample vile morning sickness for a day or two - it's no joke.

ConnorTraceptive · 13/03/2011 20:50

I had hyperemesis so you have my total sympathy. And I agree about the water thing your taste buds become hyper sensitive I found water i normally drank untouchable. Yanbu and your dh is not being understanding. Mind you my dh has a thing about not flushing the toilet if he's only had a wee. I used to go mental if I rushed to be sick only to be faced with stale piss!!

CrispyTheCrisp · 13/03/2011 20:52

I ONLY craved Badoit (which has a very light bubble to it). Nothing else would do and i would have been very pissed off if DH hadn't followed my (not so difficult) request

YADNBU

ConnorTraceptive · 13/03/2011 20:52

Oh and my top tip is to eat something straight after you have been it seems to stay down if eaten immediately after you've thrown. Not pleasant I know but was the only way I got any food to stay down.

Also avoid bread type foods nearly choked when it got stuck on the way back up!

ConnorTraceptive · 13/03/2011 20:53

Bloody I phone that should say eat straight after you have been sick

FreudianSlippery · 13/03/2011 20:53

Aww YANBU. Morning sickness sucks (I only had the nausea, no vomiting, and that was bad enough!)

DH should realise that in this stage he must always get exactly what you ask for - it's just a pregnancy rule.

My DH learned that pretty quickly when early in my first pregnancy he put something else random in the pasta. I cried Blush

onepieceoflollipop · 13/03/2011 20:57

Congratulations on your pregnancy. :)

YANBU, if your dh is being so deliberately awkward about this could anyone else get you large supplies of water in?

When I was ill with hyperemesis I craved sherbert lemon sweets. Dh spent lots of time and money and effort trying to get what I wanted but failed with this request.

The lady in the next bed to me in hospital was discharged (she had hyperemesis too). Later that day I came back from the loo to find a bag of sherbert lemons. She understood my desperate craving and had gone to the time and trouble of getting me some and then making a special trip back to the hospital to leave them secretly on my bed.

I will always remember her kindness. :) Another patient told me that she had been back in with them, she didn't even wait for me to see them and thank her.

comedycentral · 13/03/2011 21:03

(shock)

comedycentral · 13/03/2011 21:03

That was meant to be a shocked face, I hope he gets you some nice water soon.

Icoulddoitbetter · 13/03/2011 21:07

Awwwwwwww thanks for the sympathy! I haven't opened the bottle yet so I have no idea what it tastes like. It's bizarre isn't it that you have to have exactly the right thing? DH, although lovely and bless him he's done everything this weekend, just doesn't quite get it, arrgghh!

OP posts:
tigerchilli · 13/03/2011 21:22

It's vital that you drink in order to prevent dehydration which can cause (amongst other things) awful headaches. YADNBU.

Icoulddoitbetter · 13/03/2011 21:46

I know tiger. I was getting abit worried the other day as there were no drinks I could stomach. Glad I've found one at least.

babybythesea · 13/03/2011 21:54

Lots of sympathy. And definitely, you should get what you need. Word of warning - either stay reasonably near a loo or take a receptacle with you. Fluid (tea, in fact) that I drank on one occasion came back really really fast - I claped my hand over my mouth to stop it coming up as I raced to the loo only to find it all spurted out my nose. Not nice...

mumsgotatum · 13/03/2011 21:56

YANBU.....yuk totally understand the complete bleurgh of morning sickness. Feel for you...hug...your DP should bloody well get you what you need. Have you tried fizzy water, I found that helped

Icoulddoitbetter · 13/03/2011 22:24

Mums fizzy water was good for a day. Then I had a glass of it and it came up pretty much straightaway. Haven't had it since.......!

Icoulddoitbetter · 13/03/2011 22:30

I do feel like I should say my problem is more with feeling right on the verge of throwing up rather than being sick all the time. I'm thrown up a fair amount but nausea is bloody awaful, and the thought of pretty much all food and drink brings on the dry heaves, horrd!

OP posts:
DuelingFanjo · 13/03/2011 22:30

slightly off topic... So sainsbury's table water basically comes from a tap and people still pay for it?

Icoulddoitbetter · 13/03/2011 22:43

If it does come from the tap I'll be very annoyed! WTF knows what table water is? But it's nice and cheap at 17p Grin

OP posts:
splashyy · 13/03/2011 22:55

It is tap water. People on boats without permanent moorings buy it as they have no running water, no idea why anyone else would?

scentednappyhag · 14/03/2011 08:55

YANBU. I found for a few weeks that Rio was the only drink I could deal with. DH doesn't drive, and the only place I could find that sold it was a vending machine at work :/ cue lots of pulling over to dry heave on the side of the road on the way to get some! I have lots of sympathy.

FabbyChic · 14/03/2011 09:01

You asked for bottled water, you got bottled water, if you wanted Evian you should have asked for that specific brand.

EmmaBGoode · 14/03/2011 09:03

That's the kind of thing my DH would do - tight git Grin.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 14/03/2011 09:04

Of course YANBU. When I was pregnant, the only things that I could keep down were potato samosas and skittles sweets. DH would go and buy 15 samosas and four bags of skittles at the supermarket and that was me for the day. He did return with meat samosas once, only once.
Could you do an online order of the water and have it delivered, that way you needn't worry about running out.
I was going to say cheer up, it can only get better, but I did spew every single day of my pregnancy, including the morning that DD was delivered.

ShinyMoonInAPurpleSky · 14/03/2011 09:37

YANBU op, and what I can't understand is why your dp would even waste 16p on something you may has well have just got from the tap anyway???

I couldn't eat apples for the same reason ConnorTraceptive I thought I was going to die!

And I also agree with you on the eating after you've thrown up - I got 2 mouthfuls of Christmas dinner down before I had to run to the bathroom, then I managed to eat the rest of it (bar the meat which I couldn't face) without incident. It was the first meal I had kept down for about a month!
