AIBU?

to be a bit miffed at DH?

I've got morning sickness and it's an hour to hour job working out what I can eat or drink that won't make me gag / feel awful.

Now usually I'm a tap water kinda gal, but at the moment I can't stomach it, or any other kind of drink. Yesterday I discovered ice cold mineral water with lemon slices in goes down reasonably ok.

Soooooooo, DH was off to the supermarket today, so I ask him for a bottle of mineral water. He say's "will the basics 16p stuff do?" I said "but that's not even mineral water!".

Off he went, and brought me back.....16p basics sainsburys table water!!!!

I wasn't asking for Evian, or San Peligrino, just the own-brand stuff that's 60p. Surely if I'm feeling this delicate I can expect to be bought what I asked for?! I know we're in the middle of an economic downturn, but we've got no money problems, he's just stingy!

can I just say, the cheap water in a bottle tastes NOTHING like my tap water in any way shape or form! I am not pregnant an can't stomach our tap water, smells like a swiiming pool!

Dont send him for your sweets he could come back with anything!

I had a glass of the rubbish water tonight and it didn't send me rushing to the bathroom, though I do feel slightly better today. I told DH about this thread and he didn't believe me that you were all (well, except Fabbychic) on my side! Fabbychic I did tell him to get me mineral water, the cheapest own brand was fine, but I definitely wanted mineral water. The tight git got me tap water in a bottle, hmph!

I also really fancy some Foxes Galcier Fruits or Glacier Mints, but my local sainsburys don't sell any type of boiled sweet at all, what's going on there?!

During both of my friends pregnancies she had massive cravings for Parma Violets.

Only one shop sold them. Her house was between mine and the town centre and every time I went shopping, I would pop into this shop, buy 5 or 6 packs and then drop them off on my way home, often posting them through her letterbox while she wasn't there.

She said on those days when she got home with a grotty toddler in tow, tired out from being huge and pregnant, finding those parma violets on the doormat would be the highlight of her day Grin

The Karma didn't help though, I got awful MS with both of my pregnancies Sad

Mints helped as they mask the smell of everything else meaning they can't make you heave and Ice lollies. Orange ones worked best for me but I think it was the ice coldness that helped.

Hope you feel better soon

YANBU. It is vital to get exactly the right things when you have pregnancy sickness.

Have you taught him the error of his ways?

Yanbu another hyperemesis sufferer here. The only thing that kept me going for months were Polar Ice Cubes (made from mineral water) and Calypso Icicles (ice pops made with mineral water).

YANBU op, and what I can't understand is why your dp would even waste 16p on something you may has well have just got from the tap anyway???

I couldn't eat apples for the same reason ConnorTraceptive I thought I was going to die!

And I also agree with you on the eating after you've thrown up - I got 2 mouthfuls of Christmas dinner down before I had to run to the bathroom, then I managed to eat the rest of it (bar the meat which I couldn't face) without incident. It was the first meal I had kept down for about a month!

Of course YANBU. When I was pregnant, the only things that I could keep down were potato samosas and skittles sweets. DH would go and buy 15 samosas and four bags of skittles at the supermarket and that was me for the day. He did return with meat samosas once, only once.
Could you do an online order of the water and have it delivered, that way you needn't worry about running out.
I was going to say cheer up, it can only get better, but I did spew every single day of my pregnancy, including the morning that DD was delivered.

That's the kind of thing my DH would do - tight git Grin.

You asked for bottled water, you got bottled water, if you wanted Evian you should have asked for that specific brand.

YANBU. I found for a few weeks that Rio was the only drink I could deal with. DH doesn't drive, and the only place I could find that sold it was a vending machine at work :/ cue lots of pulling over to dry heave on the side of the road on the way to get some! I have lots of sympathy.

It is tap water. People on boats without permanent moorings buy it as they have no running water, no idea why anyone else would?

Report
Icoulddoitbetter · 13/03/2011 22:43

If it does come from the tap I'll be very annoyed! WTF knows what table water is? But it's nice and cheap at 17p Grin

slightly off topic... So sainsbury's table water basically comes from a tap and people still pay for it?

Icoulddoitbetter · 13/03/2011 22:30

I do feel like I should say my problem is more with feeling right on the verge of throwing up rather than being sick all the time. I'm thrown up a fair amount but nausea is bloody awaful, and the thought of pretty much all food and drink brings on the dry heaves, horrd!

YANBU.....yuk totally understand the complete bleurgh of morning sickness. Feel for you...hug...your DP should bloody well get you what you need. Have you tried fizzy water, I found that helped

Lots of sympathy. And definitely, you should get what you need. Word of warning - either stay reasonably near a loo or take a receptacle with you. Fluid (tea, in fact) that I drank on one occasion came back really really fast - I claped my hand over my mouth to stop it coming up as I raced to the loo only to find it all spurted out my nose. Not nice...

It's vital that you drink in order to prevent dehydration which can cause (amongst other things) awful headaches. YADNBU.

Icoulddoitbetter · 13/03/2011 21:07

Awwwwwwww thanks for the sympathy! I haven't opened the bottle yet so I have no idea what it tastes like. It's bizarre isn't it that you have to have exactly the right thing? DH, although lovely and bless him he's done everything this weekend, just doesn't quite get it, arrgghh!

Congratulations on your pregnancy. :)

YANBU, if your dh is being so deliberately awkward about this could anyone else get you large supplies of water in?

When I was ill with hyperemesis I craved sherbert lemon sweets. Dh spent lots of time and money and effort trying to get what I wanted but failed with this request.

The lady in the next bed to me in hospital was discharged (she had hyperemesis too). Later that day I came back from the loo to find a bag of sherbert lemons. She understood my desperate craving and had gone to the time and trouble of getting me some and then making a special trip back to the hospital to leave them secretly on my bed.

I will always remember her kindness. :) Another patient told me that she had been back in with them, she didn't even wait for me to see them and thank her.
