To think breast fed babies are more intellegent

thecatamongthepidgeons · 13/03/2011 19:52

Because their parents tend to be more intellegent not because they were breast fed?
More intellegent parents are more likely to choose to breast feed regardless of any dificulties they face if they think it will benefit their children.

Is that you Debs you have a nack for winding up Mnetters, you told me the other day Grin if not than Angry to whoever it is.

thecatamongthepidgeons · 13/03/2011 20:03

Conversely it also means that ff babies of intillegent parents likely to be intelligent.
So don't be so defensive.

OP posts:
bibbitybobbityhat · 13/03/2011 20:04

Heh heh heh!

Giving op benefit of the doubt, I think she may be saying the so-called evidence that breastfed children are more intelligent is skewed, because the parents who choose to breastfeed atm are GENERALLY (not always), middle class and upwards and so they will have passed their "intelligence" on to their children whether they were breastfed or formula fed.

A bit like private schools would always get better results, whether people paid or not.

Well, I think that's what she's saying.

Maybe.

mousesma · 13/03/2011 20:05

I think the OPs been a bit misunderstood. I don't think she is saying FF parents and children are thick. I think what she is doing is questioning whether it is really true that BF affects IQ. I also find this hard to accept so kind of agree with that bit of their post.
Think the OP is phrased very poorly though.

Of course it is entirely possible that everyone else has understood the OP correctly and I'm being thick in which case ignore me :)

thecatamongthepidgeons · 13/03/2011 20:05

If only I wasn't ff, I might be able to spell.

OP posts:
thecatamongthepidgeons · 13/03/2011 20:06

Thank you mousesma

bibbitybobbityhat · 13/03/2011 20:06

I think you and I get it mousema, actually.

toddlerwrangler · 13/03/2011 20:06

Agree with bibbity , and so I too am giving OP the benefit of the doubt and saying YANBU IMO.

cornsilk678 · 13/03/2011 20:06

so basically you are saying that babies with intelligent parents may be intelligent regardless of whether they were ff or bf? Is that a bear shitting in the woods over there?

Habbibu · 13/03/2011 20:06

I think that studies looking at stuff like this tend to correct as far as possible for confounding factors such as parental background, IQ, etc. So what the OP is saying is that either she doesn't understand or trust researchers.

Etalb · 13/03/2011 20:07

You are obviously just feeling very knobish to post such a stupid AIBU!!

IWouldNotCouldNotWithAGoat · 13/03/2011 20:07

People will flame you to hell, but I have heard the same sentiment from a paediatrician (off the record!!)

ongakgak · 13/03/2011 20:08

Marks place, piles high sticky buns for passing round later.

nethunsreject could you link to some Data please. I have read that at population level then BF is overall advantageous, but cannot remember anything more than that!

JarethTheGoblinKing · 13/03/2011 20:08

If you're talking about studies that suggest that BF babies are more intelligent, and that the reason behind is it that better educated people are more likely to want/choose to breastfeed, then you are misguided.

Any good studies have results adjusted to take age/socio-economic status/other relevant factors into account.

ethelina · 13/03/2011 20:08

Well its livened up a boring sunday evening here. Just going to answer the enid blyton children spoof thread now.

Much better than Dancing on Ice.

NorthernGobshite · 13/03/2011 20:09

YABU and offensive. I am intelligent and my dd is intelligent. She wasn't BF because I did not produce enough milk.
