Oooh am fizzing right now.Have just had my professional development at work.I work in a college supporting adult learners with learning difficulties.I requested the higher level training just to give me a better understanding of my job and to be the best I know I am capable of.
I have made it clear its not for money and that i know a position isnt available its for my own satisfaction.
Once again for the 3 rd year i have been refused the training as there is no opening. In fact i was given to believe that it had been discussed in advance as they knew I would ask.I dont get it i really dont!

YANBU.

I work in HE and have frequently had to pay for career development from my research budget. I dread to think what would happen if I didn't have the freedom of my own budget.

The training I am asking for is free at present- sorry I should have clarified that.So my main points are-
the training is free
i will work at the higher level for no extra cash
I am keen to learn new skills.
Also I paid for myself to get to entry level as I wasnt qualified enough. My own money my own time.
So i am at a loss to understand where the problem lies.

Can you train elsewhere for it?

No my boss has to sign it off as it includes independant assessors coming into to monitor progress from time to time.
