To want to take 6month DD to Baby Ballet?

MillieMoosMummy · 09/03/2011 20:13

My DD is actually 5 months but baby ballet starts at 6 months (anyone have any experience of this??)

My MIL basically told me I shouldn't, in front of all of DH's family. She thinks DD 'Does enough already!'

I felt like she was implying that DD isn't having a good time, or that I'm not thinking of her, but I swear she likes her actvities.

At swimming lessons she smiles and splashes, at Gymboree she actually laughs and giggles.

We also do Catapillar music and go to rhyme time at the library.

In four weeks we are starting 'Gymbabes' at Tumbletots.

I tried P & T groups but found them really cliquey.

I'm quite upset about MIL saying this and really enjoy DD's activities.

AIBU? Is she right?

a tad more that 3 glasses of wine methinks MMM

Habbibu · 12/03/2011 09:35

Goodness me. Where's Hully when you need her?

Habbibu · 12/03/2011 09:37

I did try baby signing. dd was singularly rubbish at it. Just as well, given that She Never Shuts Up as it is.

Maelstrom · 12/03/2011 09:52

I think she is putting her baby through all that just to make up for her own insecurities. I'm really taking pity on that baby having such a ... well... mum.

Sorry, but yes, that is how I feel. A mum who thinks she is always right no matter what, putting a small baby through so many classes, could you imagine what would it be to grow up with a mother with such high expectations?

cinnamontoast · 12/03/2011 10:09

Errr, MMM, you did ask what we thought in the first place.

Hopefully this has fortified you for dealing with MIL though...

ShirleyKnot · 12/03/2011 10:13

Oh man! The shame of it though. Waking up with blue teeth and a carpet of fur on your Tongue, and you think "god, I was pissed last night..I can't remember very much after midnight...I wonder if I ... OH NOES!!!!!"

MerryMarigold · 12/03/2011 14:17

Oh no! I went to bed 2hours too early and missed the mega - now deleted - post at nearly 2am just because I needed some sleep (to parent more effectively of course!). I am gutted! MMM, you are a scream...

Bearcrumble · 12/03/2011 19:37

Oh I am so upset they deleted it. It was amazing.

"HERE'S THE SHIT!!!".

She was great. I loved all the increasingly tight-lipped "lol"s she was doing at the end of each post.

scottishmummy · 12/03/2011 19:43

it was a long stream of consciousness.indignant and you is all bampots. good ole milly.

rosie1979 · 12/03/2011 20:11

I'm so glad I saw the post! The total indignation, the venom, what a total see you next tuesday!

Blatherskite · 12/03/2011 20:32

It included a really nasty comment about Piglet though. Best gone I think

scottishmummy · 12/03/2011 20:40

was name and berate those who disagreed, but in its sheer bloodymindedness it was funny, and actually milly gave and got.

bethelbeth · 12/03/2011 22:36

BoysAreLikeDogs · 12/03/2011 22:43

BoysAreLikeDogs · 12/03/2011 22:54

bethelbeth · 12/03/2011 23:03

Aaah buggeration!

I decided to invest some time in DD Wink

I should add that it wasn't at an organised class of any kind before it all kicks off in a spectacular DM style headline

'Mumsnetter spends time with child!!'

The shock and the horreur of it all!

scottishmummy · 12/03/2011 23:09

see thats the folly, putting the weans 1st will end in tears

FunnysInTheGarden · 12/03/2011 23:53

I saw it, twas hill hairy horse. Total pissed I have seen the light shit. Vindicated herself she did..........

bethelbeth · 13/03/2011 00:15

That's odd... the only things that people usually 'see the light' on Mumsnet are mooncups and the fact that Boden is pants.

I'm gutted that I missed another one to add to my list of collated mumsnet revelations!

FreudianSlippery · 13/03/2011 07:13

Why'd they delete it? It wasn't offensive... Just hilarious.

I hate to admit it but as of last night I'm actually considering taking my DS - that's right, he's a BOY - to ballet. Watching the Let's Dance for Comic Relief final and he was boogying away like mad to Crazy in Love!

But he's 18m, so y'know, he can actually walk etc...

Bearcrumble · 13/03/2011 08:50

I'm sure she is extremely happy today (and doesn't have a hangover headache at all), probably dressing her DD up in an inflammable tutu (with matching bejewelled headband), whilst singing all the Disney songs.

ilovetodance · 13/03/2011 10:30

have a look at this clip about baby ballet.

the history behind this company is really interesting.Although it may appear poncey, it really is all about the development and enjoyment of each child as well as offering a safe and friendly place for mums.

Loads of my friends go with their children and love it.

It's your life with your baby so do what you want!

Bearcrumble · 13/03/2011 10:38

I don't think it's poncey. I think it's naff. That video confirmed my prejudices.

At least Kitty can walk though - the OP's baby is 5 months old.

otchayaniye · 13/03/2011 11:14

"Offering a safe and friendly place for mums'

Makes motherhood sound like a walk in downtown Benghazi.
