My son, who has adhd and is usually medicated, but has has a week off the meds, has just hit me, kicked me, and drawn blood in my arm because he was frustrated with his homework. I want to cry.

His dad had it sorted within minutes of being home - son had calmed down by then - I am "Not staying calm enough" according to partner. :(

It's hard when being attacked to stay calm, although I admit I shouted at my son when he was being unreasonable.

My son has been very apologetic and has now calmed downand gone to bed.

oh boy - i really wish i had some brilliant words of wisdom but all i can do is offer a big HUG till someone more intelligent gets here

Catnao · 07/03/2011 22:15

When my son saw that my arm was bleeding, he cried. I feel so sad right now, but his new medication should arrive tomorrow.

Poor you.
How old is he?

Gemsy83 · 07/03/2011 22:18

Its easy for others to see you are not being calm enough from the outside though tbh, but impossible on the inside. Happens to the best of us especially when we are over emotional/tired/worried etc.

He is ten. Only been on medication since summer term last year, but it was aggravating his asthma and he was losing weight a lot - so have to change - doesn't start new meds til Wednesday.

It's not really my arm that hurts - it's my heart. : (

Aww Catnao x

It happens to all of us, we all lose the plot at times. At least you know the reasons behind it

Oh Catnao :(

Don't be too hard on yourself. Brew

Catnao · 07/03/2011 22:22

I can't help but cry - i know he doesn't mean it. but we have to get this sorted. The last meds were great and he did so well - but they were having side effects. Hope new medicine will help. Thanks for support.

No words of wisdom here either, just an ear of understanding. My adopted DB was ADHD and the meds never worked for him. Life was tough at times as he got frustrated easily

Hopefully the new meds will make a big difference for him, even if Wednesday does seem a long way off

Catnao · 07/03/2011 22:26

Sorry! I was being sorry for myself! Just felt my partner was also criticising me, but he says he wasn't, was just worried about our son.

Thank you for support - I know he is my lovely little boy really - but he hurt me, and it IS hard to stay calm. Really hope thid medication will be the right one.

I feel so guilty, as I did shout at him.

Catnao - have a sneaky hug

Catnao · 07/03/2011 22:40

Thank you! Going to bed now - son is all tucked up and calm again. These rages are so difficult.

I just have to put my faith in the paediatrician, I guess.

He is honestly a sweet boy lots of the time, :(

I think you should talk to DH when you are all calm, and tell him exactly what happened. He should understand the shouting then, surely.Smile

Catnao · 07/03/2011 23:26

So - I left the computer on... me and my son are now snugggling up. Deal with it all tomorrow! (Partner on sofa, thinks I sm "soft")

Was he doing his homework so late?

LDNmummy · 07/03/2011 23:31

You are only human, glad things calmed down and he is ok.

You both definitely deserve a big cuddle, that is really lovely. Smile

Catnao · 08/03/2011 23:27

Just thought would update quickly - new meds came early, and seem to have worked straight away! (Within a day or so - but doctor said they would!) He had such a fab prent's appointment, so I am really proud of him and have fingers crossed that this med (Medikinet 20 mg - will work without side effects!)
