to ask my ex to not let our four year old watch WWE wrestling?

superv1xen · 07/03/2011 18:54

my ex is a fan of WWE wrestling. to the extent he actually goes to watch shows. he has our four year old son every weekend and it has become apparent that he has been letting him watch it regularly Hmm

now i hate WWE anyway, i think its absolute shite and personally think that grown adults who watch this kind of rubbish need to grow up and get a life. (ex is a 31 year old man ffs)

i just don't like it because although i know that the violence in it it is staged, i don't want DS watching it as, at 4, he will think it is real. i also worry it might influence DS to try out the moves - as my dear mother said when i asked her about it "that rubbish will just encourage rambunctious behaviour!!" :o

sadly DS thinks the sun shines out of his dads stupid arse and that everything he does or says is really cool Hmm so if daddy thinks wrestling is cool then so will DS.

I used to watch WWF wrestling, Hulk Hogan and The Undertaker etc Grinloved it!

Then I went to Glasgow to see it live, what a disappointment Sad was sooooo fake!

I blame my Dad, when I was younger we used to watch Giant Haystacks and Big Daddy on a Saturday afternoon Grin Oh, those were the days Grin

3andahalfmonkeys · 07/03/2011 19:10

my 6 yo has watched it with dh since
he was 4. i don't see a problem. my husband watches it regularly but i don't think he needs to grow up and get a life. yabu. by the way my dh is a 31yo grown man too.

squeakytoy · 07/03/2011 19:10

Oh for heavens sakes.. I grew up with british wrestling on the tv every saturday. It will not do any harm to a child to watch it, it is pantomime and nobody ever gets hurt on purpose.

Wrestling is also a proper olympic sport, but without the silly costumes and names! it is one of the oldest sports in existence.

Nagoo · 07/03/2011 19:14

make sure that he is only watching the daytime stuff, IIRC they have different shows for daytime and late night viewing.

Just because you don't like your ex doesn't mean your ds shouldn't do bonding things with him. It sounds fine to me.

superv1xen · 07/03/2011 21:05

i JUST DON'T LIKE it dammit :o

anyway have spoken to ex, he denies that he has been watching it, erm, ok then why is he quoting the characters and proudly telling me their names?? coz it sure as hell aint ever on in THIS house!

My ds used to watch it and have all the figures

my mild mannered grandma used to love watching British wrestling on a Saturday afternoon Grin

sparkle101 · 07/03/2011 21:10

YANBU to not want him watching it, however I take great offence you say any adults that watch it need to grow up and need to get a life, I'm 32 and watch it (for the storylines not the wrestling obv) please don't tar me with the same brush.

worraliberty · 07/03/2011 21:12

All 3 of mine were obsessed with it..but fortunately grew out of it by the senior shcool!

sims2fan · 07/03/2011 21:15

I personally don't like it and think that most boys will play fight as much as possible anyway without any encouragement from tv programmes so have already told my wrestling loving husband that if and when we have kids they will not be watching it until they are at least 8. I don't have a problem with adults watching it though. I know I watch a lot of stuff my husband thinks is rubbish!

ddubsgirl · 07/03/2011 21:39

all mine have grown up with it dp is a huge fan,but they were told that it was staged and yes they do get hurt, they have a storyline,is a sport soap!lol but things do go wrong which is why they have the warnings, you teach the child its all planned out and they use tricks etc, just they same as you do with films & cartoons.

fatlazymummy · 07/03/2011 21:41

Isn't it up to your ex to decide what your son watches when he is at his home?
Both of my sons have watched wrestling, I always watched with them, to ensure they understand that they should not try and copy the moves. They have also watched Power Rangers, martial arts films etc, again I watch with them and ensure they understand that the fighting and stunts are performed by professionals.
It is normal for some boys [and probably some girls too] to enjoy this sort of programme, and to enjoy playfighting. It doesn't mean they are going to be violent for real.

ddubsgirl · 07/03/2011 21:42

was sad when owen hart died, stunt that went sooo wrong :(

BulletWithAName · 07/03/2011 21:45

YABVVVVVU! We(my whole family that is) love wrestling, and my DP is a wrestler! My 4 year old DS loves watching his dad in the ring.

It's all a big soap opera, they have realled cleaned WWE up since the 90's- they don't allow any swearing or sexual innuendo or anything like that anymore as it's demographic is now the under 14's.

BulletWithAName · 07/03/2011 21:46

And I've met loads of the WWE wrestlers and they have all been rather lovely Grin

allsquareknickersnofurcoat · 07/03/2011 21:46

DH is a grown man who watches wrestling too... Hmm

Am sure DS will one day too

Its an arty sport with the potential to seriously fuck up your body. Like ballet really...

upahill · 07/03/2011 21:47

Oh this brings back memories of my nan and grandad loving wrestling on Saturdays (watching it, not partaking in it I hasten to add!!)

BlessedAssurance · 07/03/2011 21:47

we grew up watching it too and my twin brothers were warned of what would happen if they ever tried it, it doesn't look like they were harmed in any way, they are not violent, including their friends, each to their own though,

sad yes the Owen Hart death, but did he die in the ring girl?

allsquareknickersnofurcoat · 07/03/2011 21:47

Meant to add, YABVU
(otherwise my post could be read both ways!)

BulletWithAName · 07/03/2011 21:48

It is rather like ballet actually, that's what I always say!

allsquareknickersnofurcoat · 07/03/2011 21:48

Fall like that, surely theres not really any chance he was alive? Even if some conspiracy theorists like to think so??

BulletWithAName · 07/03/2011 21:49

He was pronounced DOA, so I would say he died on impact with the turnbuckle BlessedAssurance.

ddubsgirl · 07/03/2011 21:49

so happy the rock is back :)

JBellingham · 07/03/2011 21:50

WWE is aimed at 4 yr olds
