Yep, if DH pulls his finger out of his arse and does them, lol.....just sweet ones for us with lemon and sugar

MrsH75 · 07/03/2011 14:01

We have them instead of a meal, people think i'm wierd, this is the norm non??

I think it's weird to have them after a meal- find them really filling! I have a savoury one with spinach and cheese and then one with lemon and sugar. I don't think I've ever managed more than two.

notso · 07/03/2011 14:17

Def weird to have them after a meal, but DH is a twit so he has Pansagne (lasagne made with Pancakes) first.
Me and the kids just have good old sweet pancakes though, mmmmmm.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/03/2011 14:29

why is this in AIBU? it is a perfectly reasonable question to ask Grin

yes we will - I've had to buy them though ready to microwave though as we have no cooker atm. A pity, I am good at pancakes.

ohboob · 07/03/2011 17:11

moo I do love them with plain don't get me wrong. But I made them the other day with self-raising when I read about it online and they are extra fluffy and soft and yummy. That's the only difference.

I guess they are more American and would be nice with blueberries in them, so if you want to be traditional use plain flour. I'm usually ultra traditional over things like this and want to preserve the British way of doing things, but for this I'm making an exception. They're just so delicious with self-raising flour. (and don't forget a bit of baking powder).

heres a topping idea for a sweet pancake.

melt a chopped snickers bar in a pan with a small tub of double cream. pour over pancake with chopped bananas. heaven.

JsOtherHalf · 07/03/2011 17:25

I make them with SR flour ( and eggs, sugar, milk, grapeseed oil) - an Irish/Scots thing I think. They are pretty similar to the scotch pancakes you can get in the shops, but nicer...;)

I will make the batter tonight and then let it sit in fridge overnight.

I personally prefer salted butter and golden syrup. DS will be happy whatever I do :D

chippy47 · 08/03/2011 01:22

SR flour is ok (I do it for a weekend breakfast with crispy bacon and maple syrup) but not on Pancake Tuesday - respect the tradition. Please?

midlandsmumof4 · 08/03/2011 01:41

Two of my sons make fabulous pancakes whenever they feel like a snack, better than me I might add..Grin

This must be a British thing.... how do you have filling in pancakes? Here in Canada, crepes are the big, very thin ones, that you roll up, and they have fillings. Pancakes are the size of the palm of your hand, and have toppings on them, or berries in them. Pancakes are about 2 cm thick, usually covered in maple syrup and butter, or with a fruit coolie (bacon and sausage on the side).
This pancake recipe works every time, and takes about 5 minutes Smile
pour 1 cup of milk into a bowl. Add 2 tsp baking powder, 1 tsp salt, 1 tsp sugar, stir well. Add 1 1/4 cups all purpose flour, stir, it will be quite thick. Add 1 egg, and 1/4 more milk. Cook on a hot skillet. It also makes a fab after school snack Grin

diddl · 08/03/2011 11:18

Because what we call pancakes are similar to what you call crepes.

I think what you call pancakes we would call Scotch pancakes.

Goodynuff · 08/03/2011 17:51

ok, makes more sense now Smile
