Ooh yes with golden syrup for the mister and chocolate ice cream & chocolate sauce for me. I give up chocolate for lent so it will be my traditional shrove Tuesday blow out tomorrow Grin

starfishmummy · 06/03/2011 23:01

Crepes. I like lemon and sugar or Golden Syrup (its what we had when I was growing up)so will probably have one of each. DH has maple syrup and DS will probably have maple as well with a wedge of lemon to suck on!

SeaStrand · 06/03/2011 23:01

BeerTricks...until the summer my DD was dairy and egg allergic so for 9 years I've made egg free pancakes using No Egg (egg substitute powder) and So good (soya milk)...the resulting pancakes are quite soft but still able to be flipped...she used to love them..today was her first real egg pancake day!You can get the No Egg online or at most health food shops.

SweetTransMagna · 06/03/2011 23:06

Lemon and sugar here as well. I do like freshly squeezed orange and sugar as well though Smile

Oh yes, oh yest we shall be having pancakes for tea on Tuesday (as a meal) with mixed dried fruit and lemon and sugar. My mouth is watering already Smile

SeaStrand · 06/03/2011 23:18

Beer.you have to make the batter a bit thicker and give it chance to set longer before you attempt flipping...it is a bit more tricky but the look on DD's face when she was able to join in was always worth the faff..and her dad always said he preferred the dairy/egg free ones to the egg/milk ones. No Egg makes reasonable cakes and buns too.

Nagoo · 06/03/2011 23:19

I remember being pregnant and making pancakes. The cooking time of the next one is exactly the eating time of the last one Grin

We always had sugar and orange juice rather than lemon, so that's what I'll be having.

DD wants them for breakfast on Tuesday though, so I'll have to get up a bit earlier.

Must buy oranges tomorow,

working9while5 · 06/03/2011 23:37

I made American style pancakes at the weekend for the first time. Used buttermilk substitute of 1tbsp white vinegar and just under a cup of milk. Added raspberries, blackberries (too big!) and blueberries. They were great! Much easier to flip! Thinking of doing these with maple syrup/bacon for tea on Tuesday.

FudgeGirl · 06/03/2011 23:40

I'm going to bloody enjoy them on Tuesday as well - I've got a blood test on Tuesday morning and I can't have anything to eat for 12-14 hrs before.

Why, I don't know, it's for thyroid, not diabetes. Bit pissed off about that Angry

hmc · 06/03/2011 23:40

Oh bloody hell - I suppose we had better!

Will drizzle the kids's pancakes with melted choc, dh will have lemon and I will abstain because of sodding endless diet

ApocalypseCheeseToastie · 06/03/2011 23:44

I bought some vanilla sugar specially

chippy47 · 06/03/2011 23:44

Plain flour -anything else is just sacrilege. And what does crepe style mean - pancakes are just pancakes unless you go for American breakfast pancakes in which case you can use self raising flour and a touch of baking powder/or at a festival and need a crepe fix from the crepe stall (still just a pancake). Lemon and sugar -and on Shrove Tuesday it is tea (my Catholic upbringing suggests this is the whole point of it). Cannot get my head around some of the suggested fillings. It's not broken so don't fix it. Sorry -a bit ranty. I love pancake day -memories of my brother burning holes in the lino whilst putting the pan on the floor to pick up the pancake missed in the act of tossing it (and seeing the holes filled in with spare bits for the next 10 years).

phooey · 06/03/2011 23:44

No Sad

DH is chief tosser and the bloody footy means he'll be in t'pub.

Delaying festivities til Wednesday.

Can I ask a stupid question? are the savoury ones exactly the same as the normal kind, just with savoury fillings?

Never had a pancake with a savoury filling Blush

MooMooFarm · 07/03/2011 09:35

Yes just the same - I make my own though (plain flour, milk, egg, salt), not ready made ones - I'm not sure if they have sugar in, which would obviously be a bit urgh!

MrsChemist · 07/03/2011 09:51

I'll be making scotch pancakes and have lemon, sugar, nutella, maple syrup and cherry jam for various toppings. Neighbours are coming round because I make shit hot scotch pancakes.

Can't makes crepes though, so my neighbour making them.

withagoat · 07/03/2011 11:37

Oh Fgs man up. Your h nit there= he misses out

DaisyDaresYOU · 07/03/2011 12:27

Yabu pancakes are disgusting.Yuck.

ohboob · 07/03/2011 12:31

I like indulging in a bit of sacriledge. Sacriledge and blasphemy.

Will be sticking with self raising flour. Grin

MooMooFarm · 07/03/2011 13:44

ohboob how do they turn out when you use SR flour then? I've never done it; mine always turn out ok with plain.
