Another thread about kids in shops after 8pm got me thinking about this.

When I am out and about on a Sunday [or Bank hols] I am amazed at the amount of people taking their kids shopping on a Sunday.

I work every bank hol and when its a beautiful day there they are dragging their kids around the shops.

Why don't people [some] take their kids to the beach or moors or park anymore.

When I was young every Sunday my dad used to take my bro and I either swimming or fishing or the moors/beach for a few hours on a Sunday morn. My mum stayed home to cook the roast and then we palyed games in the garden or board games indoors after the meal.

This was a family day spent with the family.

So the question is What do you do on a Sunday?

Please don't say they shop on a Sunday because they work all week because shops are open late and on Saturdays.

it was nae bad if i do say so myself. Won't be having it every sunday as DP works shifts so not always here on a sunday so it'll be macaroni or something! :)

but then that will be just as special as its sunday!

Well - inspird by this thread I was so bloody knackered that I crashed on the sofa while the DS's alternated between playing on the computer and playing in the garden Grin

We usually go for a walk then onto my mums for Sunday dinner (yum) but if we've both been working all week then we will use the day to shop as well.

By the by I remember when Sunday working was introduced. I was working in retail and clearly recall our manager "breaking the news" that the shop would also be opening Sundays. We were all horrified and outraged! "SUNDAYS???!!! But...but...SUNDAYS???!!!". Of course it's a normality now but it was such a big change at the time.

I don't particularly do supermarket/food shopping any time as do online shopping each week. But we will sometimes call in and grab a few bits, often for that night's tea ot whatever. DD will be with us.

We spend pretty much every weekend together as a family. It could be visiting friends or family, going for a walk, visiting a local attraction, going out for a meal, going to the beach or a tourist type town, etc. But it is generally me, DH and 8y DD doing things together.

Saturdays and Sundays are interchangeable here though. Neither are more important to us than the other.

So this weekend:

Saturday: lazy start to morning for me and DH whilst DH nipped out to play squash. DH put a couple of loads of washing on, DD did some homework, I tidied round a bit. Went to local garden centre as DD wants to plant some veggies this spring, had lunch at ganrden centre. Nipped to garage to drop off some paperwork. Headed home and PILs came round for a drink and chat, they then took DD home wih them so me and DH could go out on a work (DHs) meal.

Sunday: lie in for me and DH after a late night before heading over to inlaws for lunch. Had lunch together and went for a walk locally by the canal, called in on DH's grandad for a drin and chat. Then headed back home. Called at local shupermarket together to grab som bits for tea (Ocado comes tomorrow). Then DH been ironing, DD has had a bath and I have done some surfing the net looking at potential apartments for easter. Now had tea. DH is reading a magazine one end of the sofa, I am on MN this end and DD is in the middle watching Dancing on Ice.

OP what a weird thread. Do you not realise that if you see people out shopping on a sun with their kids it does not mean that is all they ever do on a sunday every week? maybe one week go shopping, another week go to the park, another week something else? It's not that difficult to comprehend, unless you are a bit thick??
And I don't consider sunday as "special" personally so don't agree with that angle as I'm sure many don't, if you want to that is up to you.

We take the kids to the cinema every Saturday then for coffee/ lunch and sometimes round the shops.

Sunday is mostly Kids go to warhammer or Park with DH1 and I do the ironing, baking and cook dinner

wellll..i am really grateful for my Sunday shop job.. i know what you mean though.
However mine isnt on a street with other shops so for all i know , customers may not go to another shop that day...

lololizzy · 06/03/2011 20:27

but...for years i worked Monday thru to Saturday (as i was in retail then too) so was really grateful when sunday trading started..be it for shopping or for my own employment.
Always hated sundays, never viewed it as a special day

lololizzy · 06/03/2011 20:29

i have two retail jobs now, without a doubt, Sunday is my favourite working day. Customers arent in a rush and seem more chatty and chilled. And it's busy enough to make the day go quick. Never get the Sunday blues that i used to get when wasn't working them,,,
