RunAwayWife · 04/03/2011 16:22

My mum is looking to book a holiday and tells me Turkey is quite cheap, um yes I think this is because it is a bit unsettled at the moment, so please can I ask would you go on holiday to Turkey in April????

Would you take children????

Why is Turkey abit unsettled? did I miss something?

Turkey is a secular democracy so the tide of change is less likely to have an impact there

Birdsgottafly · 04/03/2011 16:25

Where in Turkey?, and it depends what you want to do on hloiday and where you are staying and how old the children are.

MickyLee · 04/03/2011 16:26

Turkey isn't unsettled at the moment. It is cheap because it always has been.

The Turks love children and children are welcome everywhere so perfect holidays for the DC.

April may not be warm enough for the pool though unless you choose a hotel with a heated pool.

DooinMeCleanin · 04/03/2011 16:27

Didn't we have this thread this morning?

As I said in that one I am going to Turkey in August. I was there last year and I was in Marmaris 4 years ago, when it was bombed.

vj32 · 04/03/2011 16:27

I wouldn't go to Turkey. For cheap - read large parts of it are chavy.

I would go with what the Home Office says:

www.fco.gov.uk/en/travel-and-living-abroad/travel-advice-by-country/europe/turkey

Just scanning what it says, i would say no, don't go.

ShavingGodfreysPrivates · 04/03/2011 16:29

I'd be more worried if she'd booked a holiday in Libya however there are legitimate safety concerns.

see here for FCO advice

Ripeberry · 04/03/2011 16:29

Ahh Turkey! I went there a few years ago in Fethye and that was bombed the week after we left!
Best to go from June onwards, April is just too cold.

ENormaSnob · 04/03/2011 16:30

Turkey isn't unsettled afaik

We are going to hisaronu in august.

Perhaps go there and let me know what it's like Wink

StarvingMarvin · 04/03/2011 16:30

I love Turkey- we have been to Olu Deniz 3 times and are going back in May. It's a beautiful place and in my experience the people are lovely.

MickyLee · 04/03/2011 16:31

vj32 And some parts are lovely and classy. Like any country, everyone has its chavy areas.

Marmaris is not classy, but then nor am I Wink

It has been a bit of a building site for the last few years tbh, but it has some lovely parts now. And the people are all lovely. Dd2 talks to anyone and everyone, whether they speak her language or not, so we got talking to lots of locals.

We were invited on a boat trip we thought initially was a tourist trip, it wasn't. We were the only english group on board, which is why it was half the price of the tourist trips Grin. Everyone on the trip was very accommodating. We were also the only one's on the trip with young children. The locals couldn't make enough fuss of them, right down to sharing their snacks with them to playing english music for them to dance to.

I have nothing but good things to say about Turkey, especially wrt children.

MickyLee · 04/03/2011 16:38

I live there (here) Wink

BTW never been bombed or around any bombing, riots etc. I feel so much safer here than in the UK

ENormaSnob · 04/03/2011 16:39

We are staying in ova. Which I think is a small area in hisaronu.

We fly on 18th aug Smile

Altinkum, you would be shocked! Mostly built on now and roads all finished. Still building out of town but thats ok as my DH does the work!

ENormaSnob · 04/03/2011 16:59

Sounds good to me.

Surely there is terrorist alert for England, France etc

Flisspaps · 04/03/2011 17:02

We went in 2009.

The only thing that was unsettled was my stomach, due to horrendous morning sickness.

The hotel staff were a bit on guard but that was because the hotel owner was brawling in the street with half of them Shock

RunAwayWife · 04/03/2011 17:07

Its lara beach and she has been told temp will be about 22.

She has been before and she loves it.

Kervanfaray Kundu hotel

OP posts:
grovel · 04/03/2011 17:11

The only danger at that hotel is being knocked over by queue-barging Russians.

RunAwayWife · 04/03/2011 17:14
