Going on a short break on Monday.
House is shitpit in need of it's weekly clean.
So AIBU to want to just do the bare minimum today and leave the rest until we get back?

Trouble is it puts such a downer on coming home and the place is a mess.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 04/03/2011 12:04

upahill, is that you love? Sorry I thought you were my boring sensible DH.
elephantpoo, do what you want. I wouldn't get all stressy worrying about housework. Do the minimum to make it bearable.
upahill, if you are my DH, what do you want for dinner tonight?

diddl · 04/03/2011 12:07

As long as it´s not so bad that on arriving back you´ll think that you´ve been burgled, I´d leave it.

elephantpoo · 04/03/2011 12:09

upahill - I know you are right. I hate coming home to a dirty house :(
kreecherlivesupstairs Grin thank you. Feel I need permission to be lazy put my time to better use.
Permission granted.

YANBU - but I couldn't leave it. Just think how tired you will be when you get back, just think how much washing you will have, think of the kitchen that needs cleaning before you can cook and dishes that you will need but are dirty....or don't. It is completely up to you Smile

upahill · 04/03/2011 12:10

Grin!!

I know I know it sounds sensible BUT one year I had to go to work finish at half 4 and leave the house by 5 at the latest to take a 5hour car drove to catch a ferry.

I had a sod it moment but my God I felt so pissed off when I came back!!

DH had been working late the night before so he was ready for when he came back. I work Thursday nights so I had left the kids for a couple of hours.

Never again!!!

elephantpoo · 04/03/2011 12:12

diddl - Grin That's a good measure to use, will keep that one!
Verging on burgled, but a quick whiz through will sort it out.

WincyEtNightie · 04/03/2011 12:16

Hmm, I agree with upahill I'm afraid. It drives my DH mad.

Mind you I don't go as far as Kim whatsherface from How Clean is your House who once said that she vacuums herelf out of the house so that when she comes back the deep pile carpet is pristine Shock

kreecher if that makes me your DH can we have spag bol for dinner. And as that makes you my DH, can you pick up some milk and a bottle of wine on your way home please? Grin

AgentZigzag · 04/03/2011 12:17

You'll make a mess packing, and then again unpacking, dust and stuff will settle whilst you're away, why bother tidying up??

Lucky you going away Smile

elephantpoo · 04/03/2011 12:18

justcarrots29 and WincyEtNightie - I know, I know :(
You're right. I'll feel fed up. But I think I'm going to deal with it when we get back.
A quick clean means bathrooms and hoovering, but leaving dusting - surely that's ok??
Also kids rooms won't get done.

OP posts:
elephantpoo · 04/03/2011 12:20

AgentZigzag - ah yes. It's always chaotic packing / unpacking. Another vote for leave it Grin

legoverlil · 04/03/2011 12:21

As an extra holiday bonus get a cleaner to come in while you are away

elephantpoo · 04/03/2011 12:25

legoverlil - ooh. You're good. I like that.
Don't think DH would agree though. He's tight!

OP posts:
AgentZigzag · 04/03/2011 12:47

Do it as a one off nice 'surprise' for him ele, you wanted him to have a proper break Wink

DurhamDurham · 04/03/2011 12:53

I would have to do it before I go. I would be depressed at the thought of coming back to a dirty messy home. I would have a much nicer, more relaxing break if I knew I was coming back to a clean tidy home. You'll have all your holiday laundry to do when you get back so are just going to make things worse for yourself by leaving it as it is now.

But then my friends call me 'Monica' so I'm probably (definately) a bit anal about a tidy clean house Smile

justcarrots29 · 04/03/2011 13:14

Actually I agree do not do the dusting - it will only need doing again when you get back! A quick tidy, bathrooms and hoover. Job Done - conscience clear [thumsup]!
