Culture BBC 2 TV 7pm (thursday 3 March.)

Some of you posters may find this worth chasing or not as the case may be

A presnter went on about the rough language on his meassage site.

He chased up a poster on the phone in front of the camera..gave hime a polite rollicking...the so-called offender said "sorry" and they parted on goodish terms.
But I suppose the bloke was a little frightened about his nickname being on TV and him being contacted.
I gather he was on a lot of sites; and gave details away.

Perhaps some of you technology geezers can chase it up if it is made avalable by the BBC

Let us know how you get on..thanks

GabbyLoggon · 04/03/2011 11:28

servix can you give me that again in language I can understand. Have you had problems with being traced?

Or do you regard yourself as safe. It would be interesting if you were a technology type...who knows a lot about what is going on. cheers

AtYourCervix · 04/03/2011 11:30

i'm safe. i find a double layer of turkey foil is the best defence.

chers "servix"

glasnost · 04/03/2011 11:33

Why you not tagging "Gabby"? Afraid you'll be traced? Seriously though don't think you should fret about this. Now that BSkyB/Newscorp deal sanctioned by Jeremy Cunt is another kettle of fish.

nickytwotimes · 04/03/2011 11:34

FlamingoBingo · 04/03/2011 11:34

How did they get the bloke's phone number? Thanks. "Flamingo"

GabbyLoggon · 04/03/2011 11:35

It would be interesting SERVIX, if you were the one on BBC2 TV last night....Because this is the first time I have seen an item like that on national TV......

The serious point is if we can be traced what is
the point of screen names? I only ask the questions , the technology buffs may know some answers..cheers

Well if you write things which are private, but can be read by absolutely anyone with an internet connection, it stands to reason that you have made them public.
So on your own head be it, really.

GabbyLoggon · 04/03/2011 11:39

yes, Glasnost the Murdoch deal sanctioned by Minister Hunt is important....one good thing it has turned some of the Tory papers against the Coalition. ( And Vince Cable must be keeping a low profile) cheers.

AtYourCervix · 04/03/2011 11:40

you get traced when you enter a MN competition where you have to rrecommend a friend - they then get an email with your real name on it.

cheers "servix"

GabbyLoggon · 04/03/2011 11:41

flamingo I think the geezer was a multi siter
and gave his number away in this instance. But you cant be sure about that.

worraliberty · 04/03/2011 11:43

The pink rainbow trout is due to land at dawn.

"Cheers Worra"

FlamingoBingo · 04/03/2011 11:45

Well it's his own fault, then, isn't it, Gabby? Everyone knows you shouldn't put personal, contact information on public websites if you want to stay anonymous. Cheers "Flamingo"

BitOfFun · 04/03/2011 11:47

The bloke had a link to his own website, with his real name and telephone number on. He should not have been terribly surprised to have been contacted to politely ask him to desist from wishing death by burning upon random internet journalists.

Nobody is yet suggesting that hordes burst through one's screen to smite thee if your IP address is known to mumsnet headquarters, so worry not, "Gabby", you are as yet quite safe.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 04/03/2011 11:49

Worra, you are wrong. The herons fly vertically when it rains. HTH
"Kreech"

glasnost · 04/03/2011 11:49

Def don't fill in the census then "Gabby" if you have these kinda worries.

worraliberty · 04/03/2011 11:51

That's what they want you to think kreech It seems they've got to you already! Wink

GabbyLoggon · 04/03/2011 11:52

thanks for the info on the technology.

I do loads of things publicly under my own name.So it is not especially a personal thing for me.

Its just that some of you know more about the technology than I do. ( sitting there with your new Ipad) cheers

kreecherlivesupstairs · 04/03/2011 11:56

Worra, so that's what that man was doing peering through my roof. Again.
"Gabby" I am not sure it is you, you haven't used your normal sign off [worried]

GabbyLoggon · 04/03/2011 11:59

glasnost on census

I have not had a census form. But they sent my house a letter saying I had been "chosen" to take part in something...no name on their 2 letters.

from the letters it does not seem compulsory; so I shant play their little game

It could ne a very clever burgler pulling a stunt.

He can talk to my house if he wants to but not me. cheers

OP posts:
GabbyLoggon · 04/03/2011 12:05

kreech

you have no need to worry. If Mumsnet sites changed their policy and required names on screen I would be one of the few who would keep posting.

But it will mot happen cheers "Gabby"

GabbyLoggon · 04/03/2011 12:42
