MN has opened my eyes to many many "other sides of the debate", but really I would like to hear if anyone has a rationale for this:

Farking deliberately obscured registration plates.

They make me fume - What gives anyone the right to deliberately try to avoid easy
detection in regards to their driving wrong-doings.

I'd like to report them all but am trying to avoid my Meldrewesque tendencies for another few years yet.

So come on then, somebody give me understandable rationale about reasons why people do this.

It's probably better than the people who cloned our number plate so they could be in a car crash, drive off and the police came to our house about it....

That said, I used to date a policeman and he'd rant everytime he saw someone who had done it!

I had to laugh about the blokes who got stopped for speeding and swapped their reg plate with the police van though and drove through a speed trap too fast at night 17 times with it. I suppose they got caught though.

You see a lot of cars in winter with reg plates so dirty you can't read them - so I expect the cameras can't either. I wonder where they fall on the legal/illegal/bit-naughty-but-we'll-let-you-off scale.

I think it depends on the police officers and the situation.

If a car's got an obscured number plate and nothing else is going on, then it'll likely be stopped. On the other hand, if it's poor weather when speeding is likely to be more of an issue, or it's getting close to pub chucking out time or it's near the end of their shift then the officers may decide to let it go and concentrate on more important things.

I don't think the spray works. I recall an article in a bike magazine some years ago that tested all sorts of products and "My mate down the pub swears that..." tricks to stop the GATSO speed cameras from getting evidence.

I believe that the only tricks that were anywhere near reliable were a) false number-plates, b) ridiculously small number-plates, and c) passing the speed camera at over 160mph.

If you have the spray though police in cars can catch you out, because their ANPR cameras can't read it so they notice that your numberplate can't be read on their little video screen. I am a roadwars addict. Sorry scuttles away
