I think it is too hard to rehome an animal

I bought a puppy a few months ago and I really love him - he was the right choice for us. He cost £100.

He was vacc's and I will pay to have him castrated soon.

He has been such a success that I have been looking into getting him a companion. I would like to help a dog and rescue them but they want stupid amounts of money and loads of home vists.

I am just put off, and it is a shame because I could easily home another dog and give him a good life.

I think I will just buy another puppy I am afraid.

People like you make people buy puppies.

That's the truth.

*Hans, which rescues have you tried that want to:

Do loads of homechecks

Charge excessive adoption fees

And which don't let you reserve a dog pending a successful homecheck?

Because whichever ones they are, I'm quite prepared to contact them and challenge them on their policies and get the organisations to re-consider the way in which they operate.*

Please tell, I'm intrigued now.

ilovesooty · 03/03/2011 00:07

Valhalla, Nico's short for Nicodemus, and he's all black. Smile

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 03/03/2011 00:07

They didn't make me buy a kitten, or get a "free to good home" one.........

And I'm not exactly rolling in money (though I am on benefits Blush

Shock

fucking hell!!!

"I kind of want to pick the dog I like and go"

we're not talking handbags here love!! i really didn't think people were this stupid when it came to a real living creature. how about considering whether you are a good match for the dog? rescues don't exist so people can pick up a nice accessory when they fancy it. they exist so that dogs in need get the best care possible. they aren't their to service you and your whims. if you don't get that then i am glad you wont be looking for a rescue dog. i only wish you extended this blessing to all dogs.

i got a dog without a homecheck 6 year ago. He was a lovely springer spaniel from the centre in Newcastle. I got no checks, handed over £60 and off i went. I wish they had of done a home check or let me have him for a couple of days first. Lovely dog in the house but unmanageble outside with a toddler and a buggy. Hated other dogs and attacked on sight. Anyway i percivered for a year and had to return him to the shelter which caused loads of distress for one of my daughters who worshipped him. She still talks about him now and has a photo in her room.

Night Sugar, sleep well Matey... and thank you. :)

issey6cats · 03/03/2011 00:10

we have fourteen pens and three kitten pens (and a marvolous army of fosterers for pregnant cats and moms with kits) at our rescue and 250 cats on the waiting list to come in so we do all we can to make sure that a cat we rehome dosent come back to us and this involves lots of questions and matching the cats personality to the home and circumstances a recent example of the HAHA so called caring RSPCA a nine month old lovely temprement cat who ended up with them, he had an abcess on his head so they took him to the vets to be treated, he stayed there for a few days and when the vet phoned them to say he was well enough to be picked up they told the vet to PTS as they hadnt got a pen for him, luckily the vet phoned us and we had a spare pen, he is now happily living with a new family,

reelingintheyears · 03/03/2011 00:10

Well here's one for you too Sugar.. Wine

SuperHans · 03/03/2011 00:10

I'm about to insure Dog - I said that. Shame that another poor rescue dog can't have a laugh with us too.

OP posts:
BaroqueAroundTheClock · 03/03/2011 00:12

well I suppose that's a start Hmm - how are you going to pay the excess for one dog's vet treatment - let alone 2??????

Vallhala · 03/03/2011 00:12

fifi, that sounds more like a pound than a rescue. With respect are you sure it was a rescue?

Some pounds call themselves rescues or "Dogs Homes" but are really council pounds. Battersea, Birmingham and Manchester "Dogs Homes" are all examples of this.

reelingintheyears · 03/03/2011 00:13

Ignore,ignore,ignore.......

ilovesooty · 03/03/2011 00:13

Not to mention unexpected vetinary emergencies not covered by insurance? You haven't said how you'll afford those.

Vallhala · 03/03/2011 00:14

issey, it comes as no surprise that the effing RSPCA are as shite towards cats as they are dogs.

They are up there (or should that be down there) with backyard breeders, puppy farmers and idiots who buy from them as my least favourite people.
