not to give DPs mum the recipe for my yummy cereal bars?

Merely because it puts me at an advantage?
I made DP some gluten free cereal bars a while ago as he is a coeliac, and he let his mum and sister try them.
They love love loved them and I duly made another batch just for them.
Now they keep asking me for the recipe.
But...I quite like them having to ask me to make my 'special' treat as DPs mum is a really good cook and he adores her (as well he should, I don't mean in a creepy way).

God, just tell me I am being petty, I should just give her the recipe shouldn't I? She is an utterly lovely woman, I just quite like being better at something than her, that's all..

Aha!!!! Euphemia, I like your devilish cunning! (and incidentally, I'm sure thats what my mother does to me)

NO, don't give her the recipe! I always regret giving my excellent recipes out. I have a superiority complex that only gets indulged in the cooking and occasionally the spelling arena and I need the adoration Grin

bellastella · 28/02/2011 22:22

Love Euphemia's idea too, will definitely do this from now on Grin

reddaisy · 28/02/2011 22:27

Don't give it to her, but post it here for us to check whether they really are yummy or you are exaggerating. Wink

Jacksmania · 28/02/2011 22:30

I think you should post the recipe here so we can try it. If we think it's great, then YANBU to keep it to yourself.

GregoryPeck · 28/02/2011 22:36

Bellastella- Are you me? Grin
And the recipe will not be posted here- shes probably googling all the visible ingredients and will find out my mumsnet username through recipe searching. that'd be just my luck.

I'm with Euphemia - miss out an essential but not to obvious ingredient so they are never as good.

foreverondiet · 28/02/2011 23:25

Where did you get the recipie from? Did you make it up?

Shock that you will not give her the recipie, very petty, and down right mean/rude to give the wrong ingredients.

victoriascrumptious · 28/02/2011 23:32

Unless you post the recipe I will have to assume this is a troll post

bibbitybobbityhat · 28/02/2011 23:34

Are you 12?

BeribbonedGibbon · 28/02/2011 23:37

you are cold hearted and mean and sad to boot.

It's petty. Give her the correct recipe.

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 01/03/2011 00:09

While I do understand OP's desire to be better at one dish, I wonder if the thrill of being asked to make it will wear off pretty fast? Or if, (imho more likely) family members don't want to ask you to make it, because they know you're busy etc, and they'll then miss out?

You know you have to hand over the PROPER recipe!

I completely understand how you feel OP. I don't think YABU. However, you may have to let this go and give her the recipe. Not worth falling out over.

PrettyCandles · 01/03/2011 06:31

A person you respect and admire is offering you respect and admiration. Accept it graciously and give her the recipe. And feel as smug and pleased about it as you like Grin.

Give her the recipe but name it after you, when she makes them refer to them as 'GregoryPeck's homemade bars' and tell her she did a nice job with your recipe.

I found a recipe handwritten by my late mother in a cookery book ladt week.

I've laminated it Grin.

Write it out by hand, with your name in the title, laminate it and preserve as yours forever more Grin.
