DPs cousin is SUCH a show off. That whole side of his family are. They are really materialistic and just awful to the rest of the family, even though they arent really any better off.

DP's cousin just posted some of his 'work' for his BA in Film Studies.

I pissed my pants right off. The films are AWFUL! I could probably make a better moving image with a pad of paper and a stick man. And with better dialogue!!!

AIBU to laugh long into the night, and titter when he next mentions his career in the film industry

But I can say it was documentary on the romans with his mate dressed up.

I remember a film student boyfriend I had...he did one of those! It must have to be covered.

His was just as bad...I remember he made friends with some of those re-enactment types and got lots of shots of them fighting...then at the end a close up of a tomato sauce spattered shield.

He was a right weirdo.

Actually that seems rather nasty, I actually feel sorry for DP's cousin having you taking such delight in his shortcomings.

actally it could have been really good - it could be 'arty' or it could just be that the content isnt judged just the camera angles, etc
you dont know what is being assessed.
Its probably 'meant' to be like that

I was in one of those films, it has to be said; I was truly awful. Unfortunately I was the best thing in it even so!

To be fair, making a first film is hard work! We had to make a ten minute film and edit it, add music and credits etc in Media Studies at A level, and I am sure our work was nothing amazing, but with the hours of story boarding, writing, acting, filming, editing etc we were pretty proud of it. Mind you, ours wasn't about Romans so maybe it was better :-) I think it is fine to laugh about it yourself, but I wouldn't want to do so in front of the guy...

I wondered if the film was a wind up actually and maybe his 'style' but DP assures me its serious! He then showed me some older stuff the guy has done and we both laughed heartily. (One of the films wasnt bad, I thought but it was done before he had any training!)

I agree, spiteful under normal circumstances but this guy's such a show off its unbelievable. At the birth of my son he told DP not to use my camera as his was better. When he saw it was a similar SLR he started asking me how much mine cost because his must have been more, and did mine have blah blah blah setting because his has this that and the other attachments... I just wanted a bloody picture taken!

oh i hate famiies like this, EXp's and my mum's family are like this, you al sound jealous of each other, acn't see anybody trying to do something, always snidey remarks, bitching behind backs. it's tiresome. some of you will grow out of it. some of you wont. it's not an enjoyable way to live. I'd hate to be constantly looking for negatives in everything.
