Is it worse to be long term unemployed or a smoker ?

I do mean at a personal level, not an economic one.

eg. You are to spend 3-4 hours in the company of an unknown person of the same age and gender as yourself.
There is a choice of:

A) Unemployed for >1 year, non-smoker.
B) Employed for >1 year, smoker.

Do you choose A, B or no preference ?

Confused I don't understand your question. How can you possibly decide based on those factors?

Annya · 26/02/2011 12:54

Or fat, don't forget fat

cumfy · 26/02/2011 12:56

Bertie
Is that a "no preference" vote ?

OP posts:
squeakytoy · 26/02/2011 12:56

C) a MIL
D) a breastfeeding woman

well if we are playing this sort of game Grin

Are these men on POF?

faverolles · 26/02/2011 13:00

At the moment, I'm fat, unemployed(ish) and breastfeeding.
Would anyone spend 3-4 hours with me?

To the op - eh? I don't get it!

BertieBotts · 26/02/2011 13:00

No, it's not a no preference, it's a what the fuck is this about anyway?

cumfy · 26/02/2011 13:01

mayorquimby · 26/02/2011 13:02

just keep me away from the wretched poor.

methodsandmaterials · 26/02/2011 13:04

What a strange thread.

GMajor7 · 26/02/2011 13:06

Is this a joke thread??

Surely whether someone is in employment or not doesn't have any bearing on whether they are good company Confused

bibbitybobbityhat · 26/02/2011 13:08

Are you choosing someone to go on a date with?

I probably wouldn't go for either, tbh.

StuckinTheMiddlewithYou · 26/02/2011 13:09

Until there is a sensible explanation for this thread.

You're crackers.

cumfy · 26/02/2011 13:10

No, it's not a no preference, it's a what the fuck is this about anyway?

OK. To elaborate slightly.

Smoking and long term unemployment are to a greater or lesser extent stigmatised in contrast to (employed/non-smokers), as evidenced by various posts on here.

The inference being that such people are less well liked.

Just wanted to see who was, at a personal level, more stigmatised.

OP posts:
StuckinTheMiddlewithYou · 26/02/2011 13:11

Everyone is stigmatised by someone.

cumfy · 26/02/2011 13:13

Yes. But by how much ?

OP posts:
StuckinTheMiddlewithYou · 26/02/2011 13:14

Well depends how much of a prat the person doing the stigmatising is.

cumfy · 26/02/2011 13:16

GMajor is that a vote for A ?

OP posts:
ilythia · 26/02/2011 13:18

lol at Stuck

ilythia · 26/02/2011 13:19

There is a flaw in your survey though.

aPixieMomma · 26/02/2011 13:19

Employed smoker

And

Unemployed non smoker.

Those are my choices. I have friends that fit into both groups. All are equally as lovely otherwise they wouldn't be friends.

allsquareknickersnofurcoat · 26/02/2011 13:19

At least if someone is long term unemployed they are free to spend time with you. If they're a smoker, they have to keep popping outside for a fag, thus interrupting your time together

So I vote unemployed Grin
