Lucky old Ricky...80 million?

Dont like his feature films. Sort of like his stand up.

The Office had fantastic reviews. Liked the funny dance; but got fed up of the programme.

Ricky himself says "I am a minority taste"

I suppose he is. But it pays bloody well in USA Do you "get" his stuff. "Gabby"

He is brilliant. May as well end the thread. I'm a stand up myself, I know what's good.

AbsDuCroissant · 25/02/2011 11:53

Can't staaaaaaaaaaaaaand the man. I thought he was funny in the office, and it was a great parody of a middle manager, but then it turned out - that is actually his personality; he's not acting.

He's just a bit of a self-righteous twerp

AurraSing · 25/02/2011 11:53

I think he's a one joke comedian with an odd grin. But, if he can make 80 million with only one gag and a dodgy mouth, I don't s'pose he cares what I think of him.

allsquareknickersnofurcoat · 25/02/2011 11:53

I think he's great!

As a side note, Gabby appears to have got the hang of AIBU!! Grin
I think that deserves a toast... Wine

AbsDuCroissant · 25/02/2011 11:54

Though, I did love him on Comic Relief those years ago when he made a boy band do the David Trent Dance.

Pure. Genius

Yeah, but rest of the time - self righteous twerp

LittleMissHissyFit · 25/02/2011 11:54

Not funny.

At. All.

robotlollypopman · 25/02/2011 11:58

You're wrong. People laugh. By definition, that makes him funny. That's the essence of funniness. I defend your right to dislike him but to say he isn't funny is an outright lie and ignorance of fact.

GabbyLoggon · 25/02/2011 11:58

Ricky has "attitude" in bucketfuls. I heard him do a radio interview, he didnt bullshit at all. And I welcomed that. He has made enemies as well as admirers. "Gabby" PS (Is he married with a family?)

AgentZigzag · 25/02/2011 11:59

He irritates and annoys people to within an inch of their lives, and finds the fact that he does incredibly funny.

That's why I like him Smile

Plus that his ridiculous laugh grates DHs brain into little bits Grin

AgentZigzag · 25/02/2011 12:00

He has a longterm girlfriend I think, not married and no children.

Canella · 25/02/2011 12:02

hated all that personal stuff he did at the Golden Globes - didnt make me laugh - just made me want to switch him off!

Also not a fan of The Office (didnt "get" it) but enjoyed Extras more. I also like to watch him interviewed - he doesnt take any crap!

He's been with his girlfriend for a long time (+20 yrs) but they've no kids

allsquareknickersnofurcoat · 25/02/2011 12:02

Yep Agent
Her name is Jane

Canella · 25/02/2011 12:03

Robotlollypopman - its only your opinion - you think he's funny and you think he's good. But thats all it is - your opinion. some people share it some people dont!

FabbyChic · 25/02/2011 12:04

We like Ricky in this house.

robotlollypopman · 25/02/2011 12:04

She worked on Teachers, I think as a writer.

mayorquimby · 25/02/2011 12:23

good, he deserves it

KazBarTFG · 25/02/2011 12:29

loved him in Extras, liked The Office, but liked the American Office better (with Steve Carrell).

I also like his relationship on & off screen with Stephen Merchant. Not so keen on the Carl Pilkington stuff.

robotlollypopman, nothing to do with Ricky Gervais but have you ever seen Curb Your Enthusiasm?

robotlollypopman · 25/02/2011 12:32

I love CYE. Was watching it this morning in fact.

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 25/02/2011 12:34

corns12k · 25/02/2011 12:37

I think he's very funny - I love that some people don't 'get' the office. Extras I also liked. Haven't seen much of his stand up. My ds hates books but he loves flanimals.

Rindercella · 25/02/2011 12:37

No wonder he's such a smug bastard.

Loved The Office. Really liked Extras. Quite liked some of his stand-up. But I am not at all keen on him now.

AgentZigzag · 25/02/2011 12:39

I really gelled with the American Office too Kaz, which surprised me as the UK one is just such a classic now.

GabbyLoggon · 25/02/2011 12:54

thanks canella.

As well as being smug, Ricky is very daring. I dont know if he would make a good neighbour or not.

Even in music hall days there were comics who pushed things to the edge.

Max Miller Got banned by the BBC. And a Northern Comic called Frank Randall was on a criminal charge
for some of his material.

I think there is some old film of him floating
about. cheers "Gabby"

I worked with Ricky for many years before he was famous. Lovely chap and incredibly loyal friend. He was also a great boss. Couldn't happen to anyone nicer. His long-term gf (they met when teenagers/very early 20s) is also fab.

diddl · 25/02/2011 13:06

Never found him funny at all and think that the dance in "The Office" was also not funny.

Or maybe it wasn´t supposed to be?
