to think Kate Humble is ruining 'the Spice Trail'

I am LOVING this programme. (BBC2 right now) It is a feast for the eyes and so interesting.

But I'm so bloody annoyed with Kate gurning Humble who feels the need to be laughing in every scene. I usually don't mind her, she's an interesting person, but really.... As a feminist I totally object to her style of presenting. It's about eye candy, having a great bubbly, enchanting personality, flirting with the natives, but having very little substance. I get that the show should be fun too, but really she's going too far.

[am scared of posting this because no one else probably gives a damn. But really, how can we expect women to be taken seriously when they are just seen skipping around being pretty? It makes her looks like she has nothing but cotton wool in her head]

as a complete aside I saw her in Waitrose and she is TINY, I mean MINISCULE

Anyway, I digress, that's not the story:

I recognised her vaguely and said 'oh Hi, how ARE you?' hoping her name would float into my head (I know loads of folk, but am rubbish at names); she said 'Oh fine, thank you' then my shopping mate DUG me in the ribs and hissed her name. Of course then we kept passing in the shop aisles and she felt compelled to smile politely at the loon every time

Agree completely. She ruined a similar programme for me when she was in Israel, she met a religious man (can't remember if he was Jewish or Muslim) who after having her hand thrusted at him kindly explained that that isn't the done thing there and she spent ages making fun of him about it and trying to convince him her hands were clean (as if they was the point ). I kept wondering how and why a presenter would go to a place with an obviously different culture and not read something about it.

Now then, Kate is probably the least pretty pretty of all TV presenters in her age group. She has messy hair and wears Rohan type things. I like all that.

I do agree she has great hair.

She probably is very intelligent underneath the giggling. I'd like her if she let that part of her show. It's not her I don't like, it's the way she's presenting herself.

I really like her, and I also like her presenting style. I find her very accessible, non threatening and informative. She is what she is, she's not pretending to be a great academic. And she put up with Bill Oddie for years. She deserves a Damehood for that.

I watched this when it was on first time around and really wanted to slap the woman. She spent the whole time in one of the most beautiful places I have ever been (Yemen) talking about having an exSAS guard with her and while touring lovely SHibam asked nothing about it only talked about headcoverings and the like. Don't get me started on when she went to Saudi...!I am hoping she will get caught out by a feral somethingorother on badger watch very soon.

I went to Oman too and it is also fab (and quite accessible too so great for a family holiday - can drink the water and the roads are great!).
