It looks like it really sucks for the one underneath... Is there normally a progression with these onto a more inclusive lightweight side-by-side, eg maclaren, after a few months? Or are they used up until one child wants to walk everywhere?

each to their own. I have one. Dd screamed in the lie flat bit underneath unless asleep but at that age she screamed in a single pushchair and in a sling unless asleep so I don't think it was the pushchair! When she was a bit older and I used with 2 seats rather than one of them flat it was fine. Neither of them complained, they could both see. Most people tend to have the little one in front and the older one at the back, walking or climbing in when tired. Fine for the dcs and because I am very much unfussed by pushchairs it is used as a single now I don't need a double.

BarbieLovesKen · 24/02/2011 16:25

Often wondered this...

GwendolineMaryLacey · 24/02/2011 16:26

Never had one but when I've seen them out and about they always have at least one decent sized child, plenty with two decent sized kids. People seem to stick with them.

But, there's no law saying you have to get them, buy something else if you don't like it.

nannyl · 24/02/2011 16:26

my ex charges used to argue who went on the bottom

it was definitley the seat they both wanted!

EmmelineSpankfirst · 24/02/2011 16:27

They look awful. I always feel really sorry for the kid underneath.

Poogles · 24/02/2011 16:28

My eldest used to argue that he wanted to go in the back!! DS1 turned 2 as DS2 was born so was at the 'I want to walk but get tired stage. Found the P&T great as it is a lot easier to steer than a side by side when one child wants to walk.

Used the P&T a lot more than we used the 'Tank' that we had for DS1 (quickly moved onto a stroller!)

MilkNoSugarPlease · 24/02/2011 16:28

Oh the bottom seat is definitely the more desirable!!

My ex-xarges also loved it! When one was walking and didnt need the buggy anymore we just took off the second seat!

BarbieLovesKen · 24/02/2011 16:28

everytime I see them theres a small baby underneath and a toddler "on top".

deliakate · 24/02/2011 16:32

Well, I guess if they can both see it would be OK....... it does look much easier to push about than some of the big side-by-sides

OP posts:
HumanBehaviour · 24/02/2011 16:32

I would be terrified of accidently kicking the babys head whilst walking.

nannyl · 24/02/2011 16:35

you really arnt going to kick baby when walking Smile

Blatherskite · 24/02/2011 16:36

Baby underneath, toddler on top is the advised way of doing it but many toddlers (mine included) argue for the back seat.

I was worried before we got ours but the view from the back seat is really quite good and when DD was small, I got one of those car seat toys and pegged it to the back of the front seat so no more boring for her than being in the car. She was always happy in there and when reclined with the buggysnuggle on in Winter, it was really cosy too.

Now DS is bigger, we only use 1 seat so it's the same as any other pushchair.

Blatherskite · 24/02/2011 16:37

You'd have to be auditioning for the ministry of silly walks to kick the baby in the head!

MerylStrop · 24/02/2011 16:38

They are absolutely brilliant.

lotuseener · 24/02/2011 16:41

I have one and I absolutely love it. It is much easier to push around than a side by side. The child in the second see can see out just fine, has plenty of leg room, doesn't get squished, doesn't get kicked in the head unless you normally kick your legs out and up when you are pushing a buggy or any other ridiculous fears that crop up on Phil & Ted threads. The second seat seems to be the more desired seat with my boys.

I'm always amazed that people have such strong feelings about these buggies, especially as the anti p&t posters have usually never owned one.
There are plenty of double buggies on the market, at least with a p&t you can actually get through shop doors with your buggy.

MilkNoSugarPlease · 24/02/2011 16:41

Oh no way you'd kick the baby!!

They push like a dream! have used a ton of doubles and this doesn't compare!

When I first saw them I thought someone had put their baby in the shopping basket...

harassedinherpants · 24/02/2011 16:47

My sil has one and I think it's great!

Nephew is 2.5 and niece 10 weeks. Baby is underneath at the moment or the car seat clips onto top seat for short outings and nephew is underneath. He loves it!

Surely must be easier than a double when getting around, in and of shops?

Blatherskite · 24/02/2011 16:51

I always think DD looks lower when I put her in the MacLaren we have.

Definitely easier than a side-by-side for getting round the shops!

aPixie · 24/02/2011 16:53

Hate them. And the newborn/toddler set up is pants.

I was never squeezing my 17month old (at the time) in the seat that sort of balances above the baby!

Love my pram. Much better than those Phil and Teds Grin

deliakate · 24/02/2011 16:57

I don't have that strong feelings about them, in fact am considering getting one. Which is the best model do ppl think? The mn reviews seem to rave about the E3, which they don't seem to do any more.....

OP posts:
lulalullabye · 24/02/2011 16:58

I agree with the whole don't slate it till you try it!
I don't understand how people have such a hatred for something they haven't even tried!

Phil and Teds rock!

AllGoodNamesGone · 24/02/2011 17:02

I've never used one (old fart and they were not around when mine were tiny!) so prepared to be found wrong, but I always worry about the one in the bottom grabbing the wheel and getting fingers trapped. And is there really room for the legs/feet of the person pushing? Can see how it could be cosy and fun in the shopping basket though - bit like me begging to ride in the boot of the car in the days when it wasn't illegal, was so much more fun than the normal seat!

ClenchedBottom · 24/02/2011 17:03

I don't hate them, but don't like them and would never have bought one (logically enough!) We seem to breed big kids (!) and discounted it as not having enough space in the underneath seat.
The lower seat does look low, and certainly is a lot lower than the carrycot on pram chassis thing that we had. And not meaning to be awkward, but I have seen a dad accidentally kick a newborn in the lower seat when he ran across the road pushing it, and a friend has seen something similar - friend has twins, owned a P & T for about 3 weeks before she got rid of it......

However, each to their own.
