It looks like it really sucks for the one underneath... Is there normally a progression with these onto a more inclusive lightweight side-by-side, eg maclaren, after a few months? Or are they used up until one child wants to walk everywhere?

I have one and it's great. Do you know how useful it is for shopping when you only have one child in it Grin.

DS is 4 and DD is 2. They tend to swap seats from day to day. We walk most places and I have no desire to wait for them to dawdle along in the rain and cold.

natto · 26/02/2011 11:49

haha, we had one that was used pretty much every day for 2 years. I don't drive so it was definitely the best option for us allowing us on buses and trains, through doors, down narrow paths. my sons seemed happy in it at all ages, and once old enough my eldest could hop in and out of the back seat, before we used it a as a single. don't buy one if it doesn't suit you or your family but it certainly met our needs and I can't fault it as a double pushchair design.

NotAnotherNewNappy · 26/02/2011 12:08

YABU - I wouldn't be able to get 2 DC on a bus, in the lift up to our flat or through the front door in a side by side. They are popular for practical, not asthetic, reasons.

Firawla · 26/02/2011 12:13

mrs butler that's not the baby section that is the double's seat

amberleaf · 26/02/2011 13:43

I too thought someone had put their baby in the shopping basket first time i saw one!

I dont like them, no way is the child underneath getting to 'see the world' as much as the one on top.

I dont think [parental] ease of use and practicality should over rule the childs comfort/experience.

My opinion FWIW

natto · 26/02/2011 14:21

yes but how do you know whether or not the child is comfortable/has a good experience? my children were fine in the P&T's, they can actually see loads from the back seat. and in 'newborn' configuration i was really glad the baby was snugly tucked up in the back so he could have a good undisturbed sleep and not be overstimulated.

MrsOliverQueen · 26/02/2011 15:18

We step out into the road to pass badly parked cars on the pavement a lot lot less now than we used to with the old side by side I had (at least once every journey), that is better in my opinion for their safely. Safely overrules comfort for me amberleaf, going into the road used to frighten the life out of me.

There is the added benefit for me that I can load and unload the DC's inside the house, more comfortable for them if it's raining or snowing, imagine being woken up in the rain to be carried indoors (we have an exceptionally narrow front door, no double on the market would fit!).

Ididn't 'get' the P&T thing either until my side by side drove me mad. I'd love to live somewhere where a side by side would work though, I wanted a nice nipper 360!

I bought ours new with a 1 year guarantee. Ime, they are the IKEA of buggies - great design, not that great quality. The fabric ripped really fast. But... I sent photos off, got all new fabrics on the guarantee, sewed up the old holes and sold it on for a good price with the new fabrics installed.

zest01 · 26/02/2011 20:57

I would love one but can't justify it now as kids are pretty much too old.

PepsiPopcorn · 26/02/2011 21:36

YANBU. I can't see the appeal of them.

iknowyouarebutwhatami · 26/02/2011 21:48

I have a side by side which is great. At christmas though, when it was heaving most of the shops helpfully put lots of boxes full of wrapping paper by the tills which made it really difficult to get around.

I borrowed my friend's phil and ted's so I could go shopping. It was awful! Absolutely no space to put any shopping, or even hang a changing bag. The only place I could keep things was balance on the hood, which swallowed them and I nearly forgot to pay for stuff in boots!

Normally I can sit on a bench and see to both baby and toddler at the same time but the poor baby was totally inaccessible without taking her out.

My verdict was that it's a pushchair designed purely for the parent's comfort, not the child. Great to push, get through doorways etc but a pretty sucky experience for the child at the back. The toddler missed holding the baby's hand too!

ChippingInNeedsCoffee · 26/02/2011 21:52

The Ikea of buggies Hmm not getting that comparison at all.

They are brilliant :)

I never had any problem with kerbs/puddles/dogs and certainly never kicked the bottom one!!

The back seat is the coveted seat - so surely that tells you something.

But hey, if you don't like it, don't buy it Wink

BlackType · 26/02/2011 22:39

Iknowyouare: never mind hand-holding. My baby missed being thumped by her toddler brother thanks to the P&T bucket seat. Grin
