It looks like it really sucks for the one underneath... Is there normally a progression with these onto a more inclusive lightweight side-by-side, eg maclaren, after a few months? Or are they used up until one child wants to walk everywhere?

toeragsnotriches · 24/02/2011 17:38

I couldn't have shopped locally when mine were small without the Phil n Ted. Small doorways, narrow aisles etc. And it's a good 4 x 4 buggy for fields/rough stuff. And yes, after a while mine fought for the bottom seat?!

Firawla · 24/02/2011 17:46

I don't know anyone who has this then changes it over for a side by side, as that would be much harder to go on buses, in shop doorways etc? I know people who had other doubles and after few weeks went and got a p&t instead. they are just quite convenient as doubles go. obviously have some draw backs, and are not perfect but i dont think any doubles are really as they all end up fairly bulky and annoying just due to the fact that you have 2 dc in it...
my 2 yr old uses the back seat because of being able to hop in and out of it when he wants to walk or go back in the buggy. 1 yr old doesn't like the backseat these days he much prefers the front unless going to sleep so luckily they like a different one each so no arguments.

duchesse · 24/02/2011 17:58

Whilst I agree that the child on the bottom deck seems to get a raw deal (I must say I've never seen a child in one of those seats that was not craning its neck to see the sky), I don't think you can discount P&T in its entirety. They were the only company able to come up with a solution for my friends' twins and triplets born 2 years apart, and then custom-built it for them.

shoshe · 24/02/2011 18:11

I have a britax b dual, I sold my P&T to buy it, much much better set up, both seats can recline, top seat can be reversed to look at you, and although they look bigger than a P&T, they are higher not wider.

I wouldnt swap back.

fangbanger · 24/02/2011 18:15

whenever i see a p&T i have to wonder how mum never forgets and slings a bottle or something in the "shopping tray" and ends up clonking poor baby on the head.

trinitybleu · 24/02/2011 19:02

don't like them - friends had them and if my dd (3yo) used it with them (with their child in the top seat, as usual), her head was knocking against the metal rim on the bottom seat and there was no leg room. Also, you can't push them one handed without the brake engaging.

I wouldn't buy.

toeragsnotriches · 24/02/2011 19:13

Wow duchesse . Would love to see a pic of this contraption. Sounds awesome!

duchesse · 24/02/2011 19:20

It's a normal yet sturdy P&T side by side with two seats on the handlebars. They put the older twins in the handlebar seats and carried the third triplet in a sling.

thefirstMrsDeVere · 24/02/2011 19:28

I thought it was just me. I have thought about starting a thread before but feared a huge flameing Grin

I have wondered about kerbs. In certain parts of London there are really deep kerbs (the sort that knock the bottom of your car door off). I worry about smacking the baby's head as you go down. They just look far to close to the floor.

But I figured they must be ok because so many people have them. I like the colours but I just couldnt get past the baby being inches from the floor (what about puddles?).

I wouldnt pay that sort of money for a buggy anyway

traceybath · 24/02/2011 19:30

I hated my vibe with a passion.

Anyone want to buy it Wink

5DollarShake · 24/02/2011 19:35

What's to 'get'? If you don't like them, it's a simple matter of not buying one. Buy summat else instead.

BlackType · 24/02/2011 19:37

Sorry, YABU. Or maybe not U (how on earth could not liking a buggy be unreasonable?), but my P&Ts was a godsend. What's more, I sold it on ebay for a small fortune even though it had had several years of very hard wear and a new wheel bearing (and was advertised as such). I loved it.

Are they really? The bit that hangs below with the baby in it? They look inches off the ground.

Like I said, they must be ok or people wouldnt still be using them but the do look odd.

IcingOnTheCakes · 24/02/2011 19:58

From my experience they are crap. They cost about £400 once you have got all the kit (cocoone, doubles seat, rain cover) and mine fell to bits. I never exceded the wieght or mis used it and it tore around the edges. The basket bit, which once you have the baby in the doubles seat can't get in to, got a huge hole in.

They are not worth the money. I only had mine for around 12-18 months. Rubbish and rip off.

MogadoredMemoo · 24/02/2011 20:00

The first time I ever saw one my reaction was "Feck me that mother has put her baby in the shopping basket!"

Megatron · 24/02/2011 20:22

I had one and gave it to my sister, I hated the bloody thing. Don't like the design of it at all I don't know what I was thinking when I bought it. Hideous.

Firawla · 24/02/2011 20:32

trinity yes you can push them one handed and the break doesn't effect that, unless its a different model but i have a sport and that has never been an issue. only time its hard to push with one hand is if your tires are quite deflated then that's just cos it feels heavier but it never breaks..

as for the kerb etc it doesn't bump them but you can't really bump the whole buggy downstairs with 2 kids in because the one in the bottom seat does get jolted by it alot and might hit their head. but it's heavy with 2 dc in anyway so easier to make older one walk down the stairs and just bump it with the other one, so that is an issue with it but only a minor thing. they dont get splashed by rain or puddles by being in the bottom seat. when i moved my baby from the baby lying down thing (which isnt low down @ all dunno why people seem to think so) to the doubles seat i did think omg its so near the floor dogs will go near him, but it actually didnt happen at all

Caro1302 · 24/02/2011 21:03

I couldn't have managed without mine. DS was 2 and a half when DD was born but he's a lazy thing and would still be in a pushchair now if I allowed it (at 4). It saved my sanity and gave me back my life, with no exaggeration. And no, the newborn bit isn't as low as you think.

lulalullabye · 24/02/2011 22:18

They have mud guards which also double as wheel guards for little hands. Mine went around the world a few times and back and was still when I sold it very much in one piece!

2babyblues · 24/02/2011 22:48

It was a life saver for me. I had my second when first was 2.5 and didn't drive at the time. It was so easy to push, fit through doors, get on the bus - side by side would have been to wide. There was no problem with baby underneath, he fell asleep really easily in it. Then when both seats were up they loved it.

Chynah · 24/02/2011 22:51

Love mine! Have even gone running with it with both kids in -fabulous bit of kit!
