hiya

this sounds a bit silly and immature, as i'm 27, but wondering what you would do.
i have always fancied getting a tattoo on the back of my shoulder and, although sometimes I've wanted things like a love heart or shamrock, I would love the logo for the karate organisation I have been a member of for 16 years. However my mum has told me tonight not to get a tattoo of something so silly and tattoos are horrible. The logo is very tasteful www.shotobudo.org (I think, its just the black figures in the link provided) and wouldnt look too bad. I do respect my mums opinion as we have a wonderful relationship but i dont know what to do :( any help would be great!

Weeeeeeell...... rather that than a loveheart or a shamrock..... :o

I'm with your mum tbh, but it's your bod

BelligerentGhoul · 23/02/2011 21:52

You are 27 years old. Unless you still live at home and do not earn your own living, your mum's opinion really, really doesn't matter.

Personally I don't like tattoos but my opinion matters even less than your mum's (and hers doesn't matter!).

southeastastra · 23/02/2011 21:53

resist - or draw it on with a sharpie and see if you can really live with it before you commit

moondog · 23/02/2011 21:55

Don't in the name of God.It's so rough.
Why mutilate yourself?

KingofHighVis · 23/02/2011 21:55

Initially I was going to say 'don't do it - tattoos are shit', but if it's you karate club logo then go for it. Nothing to do with your mum.

Why do peopel feel need to broadcvast their adoration of, say Bacardi via tattoo?

pinkstinks · 23/02/2011 21:59

I have never regretted any of my tattoos, so if it is what you really want then go for it! Its not up to your mum, if she doesnt like it she can lump it. I would recommend looking for an artist that you trust and you feel like they would interpret the logo how you want it (you could change the thickness of the lines etc to make it unique)
Dont worry about the people on here who call tattoos all the names under the sun though, as long as you are happy thats all that matters :)

lauraloo09 · 23/02/2011 21:59

south a friend of mine who is a tattoo artist is going to do a sharpie version of it first but i'm still very unsure and even tho i am a black belt in karate i am a bit scaredy cat lol

a sharpie won't hurt though it's just a permanent pen Grin

moondog · 23/02/2011 22:02

With good reason.
Marking your body for life not a decision to be taken lightly.

Do you wear clothes you wore 20 years ago?
Thought not.

Bear that in mind when you think of what you will be carrying about with you in 50 years.

southeastastra · 23/02/2011 22:02

i do think tatoos aren't very pretty though - you have to be a certain type of person to truly carry them off

FabbyChic · 23/02/2011 22:02

I like it go for it! Would look really good in just black and no colour.

HecateQueenOfWitches · 23/02/2011 22:03

You are a grown woman and your mum can't tell you what to do.

I hate tattoos Grin but that's neither here nor there. You don't need your mum's permission and I'm not quite sure why you seem to feel that she's got any input into your decision.

lauraloo09 · 23/02/2011 22:04

south thats why i've agreed to a sharpie first lol Grin

moondog thats another reason why im very hesitant lol i'm just sooooo bloody indecisive lol

I feel VERY differently about my tattoos now than I did 15 years ago. They are in places where I didn;t think they would be too visible but in fact are on show more than I thought. Other people have an odd reaction to them - see some posts here 'dog rough', etc. If you are adamant you want one, get one (which you don't seem to be IMO), if not just wait and see how you feel in a year.

that logo looks like the top one is presenting their fanjo to the bottom stick person...

Why the back of your shoulder? It's a place you don't reveal in 'every day' clothes normally, but do expose at 'posh' occasions.

Also, remember you'll be stuck with this when you're old and wrinkly...

Jellykat · 23/02/2011 22:31

I love tattoos, i was booked to have one after a friend of mine- she went first and had the most beautiful one done, but seeing how much pain she was in (and she was well hard!)i chickened out,and had my nose pierced instead.. Grin

I think the sharpie pen idea is good, get the size and position right. Then if you still want it,and you can handle the pain,go for it!

looks lovingly at suede jacket she has had for 17 years
and jumpers she has had for 15.

huddspur · 23/02/2011 22:37

You're 27, you can do what you want

Hassled · 23/02/2011 22:38

It will look great now, and for the next 10 years. Possibly the 10 years after that. Beyond that it will look ridiculous.

If it's somewhere you can hide if you need to then do it. But please think long-term - you have a lot of life left ahead of you.

LoopyLoopsHulaHoops · 23/02/2011 22:38

"that logo looks like the top one is presenting their fanjo to the bottom stick person... " Brilliant! It really does!

I think you're bonkers to want a tattoo at all, but it really is your decision to mutilate your body and make yourself look like a haggard chav, not your mother's call at all.
