OK, this is a pity party really. But allow me this rant.

Took my 2005 Mini in for its MOT this weekend, and asked them to take a look at the gearing while they were at it as it was a bit sticky changing into 1st.

They then called me back toward the end of the day to tell me the whole gearbox is fuxxed and needs replacing. Cost, after discounts, £2000.

I am so angry. I've owned the bloody thing for less than 2 years. It's not even 6 years old. I do less than 5,000 miles a year. AIBU to think a 2005 car with less than 35K miles on the clock shouldn't need its gearbox replacing?

Get a second opinion from another garage to make sure.

No idea about how many miles a gearbox should last, but perhaps the previous owner was a bit hard on it?

Just lease cars instead of buying them works out cheaper in the long run.
