to want to know what nappy bag you have?

I had a beautiful one with my Silver Cross (yes it is I that hogs the pavement). However the living came away and it went a bit crap.

My mother then bought me a large overnight bag with a kooky red and pink owl print. Then my friend broke the zip on it.

Just been on Ebay looking at "Yummy Mummy" bags and they're so beautiful.

So out of curiosity and a bit of advice, what nappy bag did/do you use?

OMG some of these are expensive. I've got one of these for £30 www.caboodlebags.co.uk/store/baby-changing-bags/11-caboodle-everyday.html
These also look quite nice www.caboodlebags.co.uk/store/baby-changing-bags/12-fun-funky.html

I might be proved wrong (not had DS1 yet) but I don't really see the point in changing bags. They seem v expensive and a bit pointless. Am planning to use a messenger bag we already have which has lots of pockets. I have a foldaway changing mat to go inside it and it has lots of pockets. It's also unisex so DP can use it, rather than feeling daft with a flowery one Grin

So am I wrong, will I really want one once baby arrives?

Ive got a handmade one from E-bay...it's made of oilskin (like cath kidston material) and she does them in all different patterns for around £20. Its got all separate pockets in it for putting nappies etc in and looks fantastic-Ive had loads of lovely comments about it.

Am totally useless with links but the seller is ellieandollie if anyone wants to have a look.

Laska- no, not at all. The pockets are the key as you can easily find stuff (nappies, wipes, bib, muslin, etc) one handed but you can get things like a bottle insulator (if you need one) separately and just put it in any biggish bag.

In answer to the OP, I have the Storksak Emily in Taupe. Love it.

ChocolateBrownieGuilt · 21/02/2011 09:38

Laska- it isnt essential at all. I never used my messenger changing bag that DH insisted we bought. It was hideous and heavy.

The only reason for a bag that I can see is if you have bottles of formula stuff to move about.

If EBF, you only need nappies and a muslin or 2. May a clean babygrow.

:)

I think nappy bags appeal if you like bags anyway. I love bag but could never afford, nor would ever pay silly money for one, I change it too often. A nappy bag was an excuse to spend a bit more than I usually would. But they're by no means essential, far from.

Another pavement hogger here. Infact DH reckons I only wanted another baby so I could get my real baby (British Racing Green Silver Cross Tenby!) out of storage!

I have managed to resurrect my pram bag too, but you can buy replacement ones on ebay if you are after another one. They are not SC branded but look and work in the same way.

Otherwise, I was covetting a pacapod but I have looked at them close up and they wouldnt be big enough for cloth nappies imo. So I think I will just end up getting a bigger than normal handbag. When I had DD and DS a year apart, I ended up using my sale bargain from Ollie and Nic, a massive bowling bag. The wipes, food etc went in the pram bag and the cloth nappies went in the handbag.

Nappy bag!!!

porpoisefull · 21/02/2011 10:37

My nappy bag was useful because I don't have many other bags and it's nice to have one already packed up which you can sling in the bottom of the buggy. It also came with a handy travel changing mat which I promptly lost. Don't buy one in advance if you think you won't need it Laska - you are allowed to buy things once the baby arrives!

scottishmummy · 21/02/2011 11:15

i like handbags, and didn't want a garish mumsy bag.plus i dropped off at nursery and went straight to work so it had to look like good work bag too

Longtalljosie · 21/02/2011 13:24

Boots free one... I never understood why you'd want a pink / Yummy Mummy one. Do you actually want to have to carry it yourself? Wink

Lambzig · 21/02/2011 14:00

I have this one. www.storksak.co.uk/product.php?shopprodid=147&variantid=411

Ridiculously indulgent, and dont think I would have forked out for it, but it was a maternity leave present from my work colleagues and I absolutely love it.

lillibet1 · 21/02/2011 18:07

have tree one for house if other people take ds out one spare one for the car. all donated one free from boots (my fave) one rucksack type from toys r us one one across the body one personally think that buying the really expensive ones is a waste of time and money need lots of space to but as for it being an investment flame me if you want I think thats an excuse to spend money on something you think is too expensive

notonthepovertyline · 21/02/2011 19:35

Chocolate...If you are using cloth nappies they tend to take up a lot of space as you take home your nappy rather than bin it. Plus I had a very Refluxy baby and any journey out neccesatated several changes of clothing including a spare coat

Different people live different lives so where someone who lives in town can quite happily manage with a muslin, babygrow and a disposable nappy chucked in a handbag, if your circumstances mean it takes nearly an hour to get parked up in the nearest shopping area and you need to cart changes of clothing and maybe cloth nappies and changing bag of whatever sort is a Godsend

PurpleCrazyHorse · 21/02/2011 19:41

OMG Lambzig, that's not a nappy bag that's a gorgeous handbag!!! I'm pretty jealous but unfortunately cannot justify £185 (although it does say it fits most laptops...!)
