To expect people to know the world does not work 9-5

I'm sick of hearing people bitch about there being too many unemployed people around simply because there are people out shopping at 2pm on a weekday.

Do those people really think everyone works 9-5 on a 5 day week and off at the weekend? they can't possibly be that stupid as to not realise there are staff in shops at weekends and shops shut at 10pm or later at night, I mean even in their tiny little narrow minds the fact Tesco is open after 5pm and on weekends must give them some idea that this may be a widespread practice no?.

Had a traumatic shopping trip?

No just reading comments to news stories about the welfare reforms only to see the same old feckless scrounger comments coming up again with the age old chestnut of the number of people out shopping during "work hours", seriously how can people be so think.

Was this country ever 9-5 anyway, surely not since the advent of electric lighting Hmm.

YANBU my DH works evenings/night shifts and the amount of snidey comments/looks we get when we go out during the day as a family is really bloody annoying I sometimes just want to shout at them and correct them.

yanbu, my dh also works nights and combined with his days off is at home most of the time during the day. I was chatting to another mum at school one day and she commented on how nice it would be for us when dh managed to get a job :)
