Inspired by yet another P&T thread, I am just a bit fed up living in some a thoughtless, 'me' based society. Nobody seems to just do things out of courtesy, or just becuase they should - DC's Big Society (whatever the hell that means) has no chance!Examples:
driving into box junctions and blocking the flow of traffic
carrying on going through temp traffic lights
parking sans dcs in P&T spaces
parking in Blue Badge spaces
talking on a mobile all the time, ignoring the dc next to you
posting your every fart on FB
swearing while waiting to picks dcs up
etc etc

"posting your every fart on FB" - love it!

YANBU. but i can't see it changing. think that was what religion was for once - blackmailing people into a social conscience with supernatural fears of the consequences. these days kindness gets very little reward and most the role models are self-centred power crazed narcissists from politicians to heads of business to artists to celebrities.

Honestly! This country's gone to the dogs.

mayorquimby · 18/02/2011 17:06

Disagree completely. This is just what every generation says when they feel themselves getting older and out of sync with the soceity around them.

BitOfFun · 18/02/2011 17:07

Oi, MQ- about to message you- look out Smile

grumpypants · 18/02/2011 17:08

really mq - so all that stuff is ok then?

GlynistheGimmer · 18/02/2011 17:08

*wafts in dropping litter (it's a fruit shoot bottle) as she enters

it's ok, someone else will pick that up, it's giving them a job to do

grumpypants · 18/02/2011 17:10

and a lot of the stuff is done by people older than me - I'm not tutting over 'youth of today' if you read my OP.

Well if the number of people on this site, who never seem to say thank you for advice proffered on request is anything to go by, I'd say YANBU

Alouiseg · 18/02/2011 17:11

You just need better quality friends op. Mine don't do that!

Rosenotinyorkshire · 18/02/2011 17:11

I agree. There is something about car driving that particularly brings out the worst in people . Going through temp traffic lights on red infuriates me beyond all belief. Along with the twats that park badly outside schools. Clearly they are so much more important than lesser mortals. Angry

mayorquimby · 18/02/2011 17:11

no but it's just no worse to previous generations.
About 40 years ago driving drunk was accepted, DV was seen as a matter to be sorted behind closed doors and not the preserve of the police, marital rape was fine, people look back on the violence between men back then as romanticised, soceity didn't even see it as necessary for P&T places and Disabled spots were nowhere near as well policed or widely available.
It's just different problems in the context of modern soceity and since the problems that plagued previous soceity are no longer relevant or a threat to anyone they are romanticised/ignored/forgotten

curlymama · 18/02/2011 17:11

YABU, there are loads of lovely polite people out there.

Did you mean people ignore their own dc while talking on mobiles, or someone elses? I don't see how either is that bad.

MissyKLo · 18/02/2011 17:12

Yanbu
But some people throughout the ages have always been thoughtless cocks and you will always get em!

Spidermama · 18/02/2011 17:14

You're spending too much time in your car.

Get public transport for a bit. Sit back, read the paper and let the train/bus take you there.

grumpypants · 18/02/2011 17:15

ignoring their own dcs - wandering through shops, completing ignoring them.

OP posts:
spatchcock · 18/02/2011 17:26

Exactly what MayorQuimby said.

The satirist Juvenal (who was around in the early AD years) wrote in a tongue-in-cheek way about the 'youth of today' not respecting their elders, and how people had no manners, and how politicians were dishonest!

grumpypants · 18/02/2011 19:21

Um, no spatch, absolutely nothing to do with 'youth of today', but MQ does make an accuarate point, particularly re: visibility of rudeness. Spider - wish I could. Have nursery - school - work - travel for work - etc etc . Impossible by bus or train unfortunately.
