scabies outbreak?

ok i think i might be winning the prize this week for "most precious parent" after my post yesterday re DS's social life.... Blush

...but today he brought a letter home saying there had been several cases of scabies at school and to be vigilant about signs of it in your DC...so
i am seriously considering keeping him off tomorrow and friday and sending him back after half term as i REALLY do not want him (and then possibly me, DH and DD) to get this horrible condition will just ring the school and say he's got a cold or something.

he is only 4 btw, it isn't his gcse year....

I think I'd be tempted to keep him off, too.
But you can't keep him off forever, and it could linger a while amongst the preschoolers.

MissVerinder · 16/02/2011 16:01

If you can, keep him off. Scabies is a pain to treat, and if he gets it, everyone wil need treating, not to mention the washing...

Imnotaslimjim · 16/02/2011 16:07

I agree, I would keep him off too, its only 2 days and scabies is awful to deal with and spreads very easily

PomonaTodd · 16/02/2011 16:31

Might it not have been spread already?

Bloodymary · 16/02/2011 17:24

I very rarely keep children off of school, but in this case I think that I would.
Scabies is seriously unpleasant I believe.

superv1xen · 16/02/2011 17:25

oh lord i do hope not :( :(

Can you ring the school to check that the children that have it are going to be kept away?

Bloodymary · 16/02/2011 18:00

Oh they would be surely.
Well I would hope so!

superv1xen · 17/02/2011 09:56

Not at all, I'd have done the same Grin

He's only 4, I used to pull mine out if we had something more interesting planned and I would definitely have kept them off for something like that

Dozy question, is scabies the same as ringworm?
