To say "sod Tescos" and drive across town to shop...

Went in today to pick up a few things and browse the clothing (need new jeans, but as I stay at home, don't want to spend much on them). See signs all over clothing dept. that if you spend £25 you get £5 back.

Brilliant!

DD needs some new jeans as she's just outgrowing things now, and a new top put us just over.

Went through check out, checked bill (have been doing this after a thread a while back on here mentioned the number of times people have been over charged at Tesco), and found I didn't get the discount.

Went to customer service desk, and was pushed aside by delivery man dropping off a package. Ah well, guy probably in a rush, I was fine to wait. There were two people at the desk, no queue at all, the other lady just stood there not doing anything, asking me if I needed help etc. Fine, delivery guy was taking up most of the counter space. Waited for delivery to be signed for etc. then went forward.

Handed over receipt and mentioned the discount to them and asked if maybe I had purchased items not included in the offer (knowing I had, but figure best to go with a good friendly attitude... more flies with honey.)

Both ladies immediately say "only with a VOUCHER". Oh, right. Luckily I'm a bit tired today so I didn't say anything right away. Guess they took that to mean I wasn't shifting so easily. One of them then turned to a HUGE stack of vouchers on the desk and said, "oh go ahead then" The other lady exclaims "are you sure? it will have to be cash!"

It's £5 ffs! And it's their bloody offer!!!

They were quite huffy during the whole interaction. I just smiled and thanked them and left. But, really? I mean clearly it wasn't a limited offer, they had the vouchers there.

Again, figure maybe they're having a bad day.

Get home to find the security tag still on the jeans!

Sigh.

Luckily I was able to pry it off.

Guess I shouldn't expect anything better with the prices for the clothing, but if/when I return I can guarantee I'll be checking receipts each and every time!

YABU to spend £25 on a top & jeans at tesco - Sainsburys is far far better, and M & S is usually cheaper too! :) I hate tesco Grin

RunsWithScissors · 16/02/2011 14:10

£25 on a top and TWO pairs of jeans actually! And I spent it knowing that I'd get £5 back, so £20 for three items... I don't think that's bad value :-)

RunsWithScissors · 16/02/2011 14:13

But I agree, I do prefer sainsburys and m&s. Unfortunately it's a half hour drive each way to the nearest one.

I don't shop at Tesco much, as I don't like their 'fresh' produce but the staff at my local one I have to say were very helpful the other day.

YANBU to enquire about the discount- it sounds like it could at least be clearer as to in what circumstances it applies.

LoveBeingADaddysGirl · 16/02/2011 14:19

Any reason for the name change op?

Anywho in a couple of weeks you'll wish you hadn't bothered when the jeans go bobbly.

ihatethecold · 16/02/2011 14:23

tesco is the only supermarket where i check my reciept every time, they overcharge repeatedly, its so annoying, then you query it with the cashier, they tell you to go queue up at cust services.

who wants to do that?

i think they know most people wont bother for a pound or so.
cheeky sods the lot of em!
ive given up shopping there.
the fruit and veg is rank!!

caughtinanet · 16/02/2011 14:24

Namechange confused me too - I'd ring customer services and complain. The voucher thing does seem a bit silly.

Its like the Boots points - you have to get a voucher from the machine to get extra points. Why not just give you the points ?

Sainsbury's kids clothes are great. My local store is expanding and I'm hoping for a wider selection.
