I'm at work and the guy next to me at the desk won't stop sniffing and snorting. It's so loud and I'm reaching the end of my tether. Angry
I have made little hints and offered him tissues but he still snorts away like a happy little piggy. He doesn't even have a cold or hayfever to blame it on, it's been going on for weeks!

Just tell him. He probably doesn't even know he's doing it.

Or break his nose.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 15/02/2011 12:45

Is he a cocaine addict? If not, thrust a tissue under his nose and tell him the blow the fucker.
I do understand your despair, I loathe sniffers. I've been married to one for longer than I care to admit Angry

PURPLESWAN · 15/02/2011 12:46

Hubby does too, drives me mad.

TheBolter · 15/02/2011 12:51

Oooo I HATE sniffers! I've been barking at my poor dd1 over the last week to blow her nose - especially now as she keeps snorting thick snot at the end of her cold. And as she's being ultra irritating of late, bless her.

I do remember sharing an office with someone who kept sniffing, and I just said, "Andy could you please blow your nose?" In a slightly humoured but quite direct way. A colleague said, "Yeah could you please 'cos it's annoying me too?" Thankfully he was very good humoured about it and did as he was told!

I feel your pain Grin .

BuntyPenfold · 15/02/2011 12:51

Is he doing that sort of gargling sniff that makes you gag? We used to have a teacher who did that, uuuurrrggghhhh.

queenofthecapitalwasteland · 15/02/2011 13:07

Yes, Bunty, it's digusting and makes me want to gag everytime he does it.
I really have tried to hint at how annoying it is but it's not getting through:
'Here, have a tissue'
'Have you taken anything for that cold?'
It's getting to the point where I will just start shouting Stop Sniffing!! at him in the middle of the office.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 15/02/2011 13:08

Oh God, is it me? I have a terrible cold and am sniffing but it's the sort of solid snot that can't be blown out, IYSWIM. I'm trying to be quiet but it's quite hard to breathe Blush

BuntyPenfold · 15/02/2011 13:10

:) Is that bullying though?
Should you say Please stop sniffing and then HR won't be able to say you were confrontational.

LessNarkyPuffin · 15/02/2011 13:10

Put a box of tissues on his desk. If he still doesn't stop I'm sure you're allowed to kill him. It's the law.

BuntyPenfold · 15/02/2011 13:12

Sprinkle him with Olbas?

CaptainNancy · 15/02/2011 13:21

Oh lord, it's me isn't it?
I'm so sorry... horrific cold. Sad

FabbyChic · 15/02/2011 13:22

Does he snort coke? that could be the reason he sniffs so much.

redpanda13 · 15/02/2011 13:27

YANBU - sniffing drives me mad. Go to loo and get loo roll. Hand it to him and tell him to blow his nose.
I have done it. Though I am easily annoyed. I got a ban put in place about eating at desks just because the guy next to me ate like a pig. We had a break out area so I was not that unreasonable Wink

nickelbabe · 15/02/2011 13:28

I'm sorry, but the only way round this is to tell him to stop.
he probably doesn't even realise he's doing it.

BuntyPenfold · 15/02/2011 13:32

Is it the dark haired man with his back to the window? Wearing a dark green or blue shirt?

mumtoted · 15/02/2011 13:32

Have you told him yet? It would drive me mad too!

TyraG · 15/02/2011 13:36

Could be tic he has or could even he has Tourette's. He may not be aware he's doing it and he may not be able to control it.

KazBarTheFriendlyGhost · 15/02/2011 13:38

today I am a sniffer and I apologise!
The beak just won't stop running!!!

Oh shit..there it goes again.......

OP - sounds like he's on coke, I'd ask him straight out "Hey, are you on coke or something cos that sniffing is getting right on my wick!"

Mirage · 15/02/2011 14:00

Do you work with my dh? He does this, admittedly, only when he has a cold, but it drives me absolutely mad with rage.Horrible habit.
