I live in a semi - no fence between next door and mine as we live on the pavement as it were, there is a small flower bed out the front - my 1/2 is lavender, the whole lot, established lovely lavender

boring, low maintenance, perfect

my neighbours who have recently moved in have pulled up all their plants and put grey slate (fine)

then comes a knock at the door, was I thinking of "matching" their front bed,

well, no I say.... I like my lavender

Oh, she says... they are dissapointed apparently, as slate is so much "fresher and modern"

WTF?

I silently screamed in my head and wanted to tell her to piss off... AIBU to keep my lavender??

I'd knock and ask if they'd like a pot of lavender to go on their slate as it looks a bit bare Wink

scurryfunge · 14/02/2011 19:01

Go and dig up the slate overnight and plant a lavender bush to match yours,Grin

trixie123 · 14/02/2011 19:02

not at all but the first time one of the bees that hover round it sting them you'll hear about it!

Overnight you need to cover their slate with pots of busy lizzies, geraniums and carnations. And a grome.

tulpe · 14/02/2011 19:03

YANBU

They will be going back to lavender once they realise how much cats like to poop on slate chippings (bitter voice of experience emoticon)

TheProvincialLady · 14/02/2011 19:04

Or a gnome. It's up to you really, gnome or grome.

waitwhat · 14/02/2011 19:06

I second the gnomes..A whole fecking army of them

Bogeyface · 14/02/2011 19:09

thisisyesterday · 14/02/2011 19:17

haha yanbu to keep your lavender, although i do think it is kind to consider your neighbours when planting certain things

my back garden is completely ruined by next door's bamboo

jonicomelately · 14/02/2011 19:17

She sounds friggin nuts.

valiumredhead · 14/02/2011 19:19

Oh I love lavender. Hate that slate stuff.

givemushypeasachance · 14/02/2011 19:19

What kind of freaks are they? It's one thing if you were hoping to put a new fence up and wondered whether your neighbour might want to replace theirs at the same time so you can share the costs, but quite another to go give unrequested advice on the whole style of your front garden!

Is there room to stick a rotary washing line amidst the plants? Then you could defiantly hang your smalls on there and watch for the reaction.

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 14/02/2011 19:19

YANBU. Take up Guerilla Gardening and secretly lob seed bombs in her front garden.

OnlyWantsOne · 14/02/2011 19:22

to make matters worse they've built a feature out of a pile of larger bits of slate

DD1 keeps trying to kick it over
