could make their own gardens more appealing for their cats so said cats don't come and poo in my vegetable garden and use their own instead?

It drives me up the wall. We end up have to put netting everywhere and sticks and upturned crtaes and still the poxy things manage to dig up everything and poo. Angry

There's a lot of complaining on this thread with very little solution to the problem.

I wonder how many people that "Hate" Cats actually prefer Dogs?

Dog shit is everywhere you look...but that's ok because they shit in communal areas?

WoTmania · 18/02/2011 13:57

very few people on here have said the 'hate' cats. I don't for starters. Dogs are a completely different matter. Besdies why can't I, and others, have a moan if we want to? Would you like your vegetables to pooed on the dug up?

I didn't say that "All" people on here hate Cats..I said some.

We all live with Cats in our gardens but a person has got to be seriously imbalanced to suggest poisoning them?

But I did ask how many people on here that hated cats had a Dog?

Dakiara · 18/02/2011 14:59

I quite cheerfully hate both cat and dog poo.

The cats here poo in our flowerbeds (we have to get them grassed over this year it's that bad) and when they run out of room they dig up our driveway down to the hardcore to find soil to cover it with or just do it on the grass itself. They've also been known to do it on the back lawn and in the raised beds, so I have had to buy netting and go through all the rest of it to cover everything to make sure the cats don't leave poo about for either me (pregnant atm) or my young son to find. Oh, and the cats have also taken to pooing on my flat roof (there's a bit of moss to cushion their arses), which means I can't open that window when it's sunny either due to the stench. No repellent has worked thus far, though I am considering an actual lion... Grin

There are also at least two dog owners who need a lesson on how to use their hands to pick up their dog's poo. This makes me more cross, though affects me less overall. Angry

Honestly, I'm around £140 out of pocket so far for all the steps I have taken over the last couple of years, probably more. For other people's pets. And, at this rate, we will have to have the front driveway redone at least partially to make the hardcore deeper and less accessible to the little b*stards.

Oddly I like both cats and dogs (though am allergic to both). Just not their cr*p. Confused

Have always wondered if a raised bed area with a nice fluffy soil/sand mix surrounded by long grass and catnip in the owners gardens would help - if not for their own cats then on a "cat-swap" basis for others in the area.

I'm not into cats although I love most dogs. But I accept that cats will come into my garden and poo. I think OP's neighbours have far too many cats and so her problems are extreme. But I think there needs to be a bit of give and take with neighbours

IcingOnTheCake · 18/02/2011 16:03

I agree it's annoying when cats shit in your garden although i also just accept the fact that nothing can be done, it's just one of those things. Like when squirrels eat my bulbs, snails and other insects eat my plants, i hate them doing it, but little can be done.

I think cats don't like white pepper? Maybe try that?

IcingOnTheCake · 18/02/2011 16:04

Oh and someone "understanding" someone who poisened a cat. SickHmm

giveitago · 18/02/2011 16:23

Oooh basing on what I know only - we had a heaven home and garden for our cat - but our cat would go for the family that hated her and would, on purpose, do her wee or poo in their garden.

Also my df left my dm after years of marriage. Our family cat then did a wee in his shoe by way of revenge. Odd, but I guess that cats also have their views.

And that's why I adore cats.

IcingOnTheCake · 18/02/2011 16:32

Growing up, our cats used to follow us to the end of our road and would wait there until we got back. Sometimes it would all day!

Our cat also came trick or treating with us. He followed us around the block and waited at each front door with usGrin

There's a lot of complaining on this thread with very little solution to the problem.

Most of the options for keeping cats away can be found here:

www.deteracat.co.uk

The water scarecrow is good - but we do not have an outdoor tap so cannot use it overnight. Sonic things are o.k, as are impregnated citrus sticks - can buy via Amazon.

For us it just moves the problem round the garden - possibly because there are so many animals round here.

hymie I also hate the dog owners who leave shit over most of the pavement here and in the children play area where dogs are not supposed to go.

Boozilla · 18/02/2011 16:52

Save some holly leaves until they dry out and get hard and then sprinkle them over where the cats usually poo. A few spines in their paws seems to deter them from coming back in my experience.

Arneb · 18/02/2011 16:55

Tried that with rose thorn strewn cuttings - they just started shitting over them Sad.

Boozilla · 18/02/2011 16:59

Try holly, it's like little needles when they dry out, sharper than rose thorns. It happened by accident when I noticed that a patch of flower beds underneath a neighbours holly tree were shit free and I pricked my hands badly when clearing leaves.

Have started putting them all over the surface of the soil on the bad areas. Seems to work!

Arneb · 18/02/2011 17:17

Will do - thanks Smile.
