To have just chucked all the junk from my flat into my car before the estate agent came round to value the place?

I was going to tidy up, really I was, but I ran out of time so chucked a load of paperwork and bits and bobs in the car.

Hmmm... he's gone now so I'm off to clear out the car.

Ha, exactly what we did when trying to sell our flat in London.

No, you are being practical, not unreasonable Smile

Mollymax · 12/02/2011 15:52

Fantastic idea, keep your car clear ready for the viewings and all the junk in boxes ready to chuck in.
When we sold our last house we put the dogs in the shed whilst we had viewings. Grin

backwardpossom · 12/02/2011 15:54

YANBU - I did it, too. Now I have camping gear in the boot of my car, as I've nowhere inside to store it that doesn't involve putting it in the attic and I CBA to get the ladder out...

HarrietSchulenberg · 12/02/2011 15:56

Ha ha, good idea. Some friends of friends had their house photographed for House Beautiful or one of those sort of mags. They hid all the crap behind sofas and curtains or moved it from room to room to keep the house looking lovely for the cameras.

I always think of that when I see rooms in style mags!

Littlefish · 12/02/2011 15:56

We had a chest of drawers and some boxes which got moved to our neighbours house for the valuation, photographs, and first weekend of viewings! Thank goodness our house sold straight away - I was sick of moving the furniture out!

jenga079 · 12/02/2011 16:03

That's what worries me Littlefish, now I've done it once I'm going to need to do it every time (or, as DP keeps nagging suggesting, "just sort out your damn paperwork!")

Panzee · 12/02/2011 16:04

Oh that's a great idea! I'm going to do that.

nannyl · 12/02/2011 16:07

YANBU

YAB sensible Smile

coastgirl · 12/02/2011 16:08

YANBU - we dismantled half our furniture and put it in a neighbour's garage, and boxed up lots of books and boxes of crap and shoved them in the attic. No way we've have sold it with everything in - the house was the size of a shoebox!

LilBB · 12/02/2011 16:13

YANBU we are trying to sell our house and worry when someone comes to view all the cupboards/wardrobes will finally give way and years of clutter will fall out.

jenga079 · 12/02/2011 16:14

Hahaha, now I'm worried. If we're all at it then surely the next place I buy also has a load of extra furniture hidden in cars / with neighbours / in the attic Smile

valiumredhead · 12/02/2011 16:16

We did exactly the same except shoved it all in the loft!

ragged · 12/02/2011 16:18

I am impressed that you got it all into one car. I'd need a couple of lorries for all my clutter (sigh).

Panzee · 12/02/2011 16:21

I'm going to need a bigger car. Hmm....

cardibach · 12/02/2011 16:29

YANBU. In fact, I think I might adopt your approach whenever I have visitors...

roadtrain · 12/02/2011 16:32

YANBU.
There are threads on here where people have hired storage facilities to stick loads of possessions into before selling their properties!

fulltimeworkingmum · 12/02/2011 16:49

HaHa - very sensible. I did this at work when we had a big inspection and I hadn't had time to clear out my office. I shoved all the crap I had not had time to sift through into the boot of my car - Result!

ZillionChocolate · 12/02/2011 16:54

YANBU if they were coming to take photos. Your estate agent is being unreasonable if it's just a valuation. I think that a lot of them a morons though.
