Seems to say to boys "you can beat up your girlfriend (she probably deserved it anyway) and everyone will make excuses, feel sorry for you and it won't affect you at all and you can carry on being a giant pop star so why would it matter if you do it, you plumber/accountant/whatever" Angry

I don't understand altinkum.

Very few women report their rapes to the police. Are you saying that if women are not prepared to report their rapes to the police then they must remain silent about them, and pretend they have not happened? Doesn't sound like a great approach.

I still don't see how you can liken a woman saying she has been raped, to a man beating the crap out of his partner.

SardineQueen · 12/02/2011 12:48

Oh sorry got that wrong. I mean I don't see how you think that a woman saying she has been raped is much worse than a man beating the crap out of his partner.

I think that it is quite comforting to know that you are not alone in not reporting a rape. Most women don't report rapes, katie price did what most women do. Revealing that you have been raped takes some doing, her reaction to it at the time ie not reporting it was completely normal. So I think what she has done is actually pretty helpful, breaking the silence that surrounds this crime, making lots of women realise that they are not the only one.

I still don't understand how you can think that KK and Jordan are much worse than someone convicted of DV.

I think what really narked me about Chris Brown was that (apart from being violent towards someone he 'loved') he really wasn't sorry about it.

Which is odd when you read this:

"In light of the alleged domestic-violence incident, a 2007 interview Brown did with Giant magazine, in which he said his mother had been physically abused by his stepfather, has resurfaced. "He used to hit my mom," the singer told the magazine. "He made me terrified all the time, terrified like I had to pee on myself. I remember one night he made her nose bleed. I was crying and thinking, 'I'm just gonna go crazy on him one day.' ... I hate him to this day.""

I'm not a fan of Chris Brown or Rihanna, but I do believe every man or woman has the right to their life back after punishment for a crime.
Chris Brown is still making music and rightly so, he has millions of fans worldwide who really are not interested in his private life.
As for the subject of his influence on kids, I'd be more worried about the latest offering from Rihanna.

I just went in and asked ds1 who is 14 if he would buy a Chris Brown album. He made a face and said no. When I asked him why, he said "Because he beat up Rihanna."
I am relieved that I have raised a teenager who won't contribute to the wealth of the likes of CB.

ellesbelles79 · 13/02/2011 00:37

YABU

he served his time for doing something wrong and other reports have said she hit him in the head with her stiletto before he retaliated - nobody knows the full background. nobody will ever know what went on behind closed doors...

Give the guy a break ffs!

im more fussed that kerry katona is shoved in our faces all the time....at least chris has talent and is trying to be a better man.

Lulie110 · 13/02/2011 00:58

I don't disagree with the anger meted out to Chris Brown... but I do wonder why other 'hitters' seem to be ok?

Eg the Scottish bond? His ex-wife told all and he STILL gets feted as some kind of sex god???

OhForBoonessSake · 13/02/2011 17:17

"shes claimed stuff, yet to be proven and done nothing to help people in a similar situation, her fans will look upto her, and say, well KP did it that way so, so should I."

so should rihanna now be helping victims of DV? because she was a victim and is in the public eye, does that mean she has a duty to help other victims?

should chris brown be helping other perpetrators of DV to reform?

why does being a rape victim and a celebrity automatically mean jordan has to help other rape victims?

i dont understand how the mere fact that jordan is a celebrity means that you judge her inaction against her rapist as worse behaviour than chris brown's attack on rihanna. he commited a crime, a nasty assault, yet you say jordan, because she is a victim of an assault is worse than him?? your logic is certainly beyond my comprehension i am afraid.

maddy68 · 13/02/2011 18:06

Dont care to be honest.
He is a good musician therefore he sells music, I would and have just bought it

he is a shit partner therefore I wouldnt be with him

two seperate issues

VanityRocks · 13/02/2011 18:09

If you by his music it doesn't condone what he has done FFS!!!
Get over it silly OP.

mayorquimby · 13/02/2011 18:11

Nah I tend to seperate an artists out put from their personal lifes. There's plenty of actors/sportsmen/musicians who I think are appalling individuals but I don't tend to base my consumption of their products on how they behave in private.

CashierNumber5Please · 13/02/2011 20:00

Well he's added this to the latest song he's releasing-

"I used to see my momma getting beat down
Is that the real definition of me now?
I fell off, back on my feet now
Heading to the sky, can't even see down."

I mean on the one hand it's good that he's addressing it in his work, but really, couldn't he be a little more....sorry? I'd feel a hell of a lot less guilty about liking some of his (admittedly, quite catchy) music if there was a bit of focus on what he'd done and some attempt to appear repentant. Instead he seems to put the whole "woe is me"-act into some form of rap, sticking two fingers up at those who dared to suggest beating his girlfriend might have a negative impact on his career.
