Seems to say to boys "you can beat up your girlfriend (she probably deserved it anyway) and everyone will make excuses, feel sorry for you and it won't affect you at all and you can carry on being a giant pop star so why would it matter if you do it, you plumber/accountant/whatever" Angry

I'm not saying he shouldn't be allowed to work! I'm saying that he isn't a suitable role model for kids ffs.

OP you said 'he's working after committing an assault and it's not that he's just working...'

So why did you say that?

Changing2011 · 12/02/2011 11:02

There are plenty of bad role models for kids who havent had a conviction and punishment, you going all Mary Witehouse about it will not change anything. Sorry. And your child porn analogy makes you easy pickings in AIBU - Best stick to Bounty!

He's AMERICAN so we wouldn't be "paying for him" anyway.

"hes not the first and he certainly wont be the last man to beat his woman, and vice versa" - so that's alright then?

I love how I must be a vigilante! Great logic there. And that I'm against the rehabilitation of offenders because I don't think they should be on the front of Smash Hits.

It does bother me that there are millions of people across the globe who look up to him, support him, in usual teen way would "take his side" over the Rihanna violence, because they are fans of his, not hers, etc.

it is unsettling, tbh. that so many people can ignore the violence (not talking baout appreciating his music here, but the fact that he can be adored, overlooking the nasty side to him), and get on with appreciating his music.

it is worrying that is it so normalised, i suppose. that all these fans aren't horrified by what he did, but just accept that it happens, and (in their view) it was probably Rihanna's fault anyway.

Changing2011 · 12/02/2011 11:04

Is Smash Hits still in circulation?

JimmyChooChoo · 12/02/2011 11:04

Oh so let the Americans pay for him. That's okay thenHmm

maristella · 12/02/2011 11:06

LessNarky that is scary :(

Brown should take responsibility and make it quite clear that he and he alone was responsible for his violent actions.

And for the record I think he is a woman beating waste of space.

Much preferred the version of the song the Chris Moyles show did anyway Grin

The link that LessNarkyPuffin posted is frightening reading.

THAT is why I don't think that Chris Brown should be a pop star any more.

OP YANBU at all. Yes, there were lots of unpleasant 'pop' stars but in the main their vices remained hidden until much later in their career.

I am not saying Chris Brown shouldn't have a career but I certainly won't be contributing to it. He is a horror.

This is a report on the Home Office ad campaign to target domestic violence in teenagers. It was launced in response to NSPCC findings that 25% of 13-17 year old girls have experienced physical violence from a partner.

silverfrog · 12/02/2011 11:14

sorry, but what have jordan and kerry katona got to do with this?! haven't you been vocal about not trying to draw analogies, and muddy the waters?

fwiw, no I wouldn't want my teens (not that i have any yet), or re-teens come to that, to be looking up at either of them as role models either.

but I'm not sure why that means it isn't very worrying that the world has glossed over a serious assault on a woman, and can now carry on adoring the perpetrator.

silverfrog · 12/02/2011 11:15

and as far as I know (which admittedly is not an awful lot about this - not really my area of interest, tbh) the violence was not just once.

JimmyChooChoo · 12/02/2011 11:16

OP that's his job. What else do you expect him to do?The guy who was in Eastenders murdered someone(if you remember)he still continued to act.Doesn't mean it's always right but once they serve their time they have to keep on working don't they?

StealthPolarBear · 12/02/2011 11:18

"I am not saying Chris Brown shouldn't have a career but I certainly won't be contributing to it."

That's the way I feel about this sort of thing too. Aren't a lot of MNers boycotting Michael Jackson stuff, even though he was never convicted? Hmm

And I feel the same about golden girl Cheryl "Thug" Cole

OhForBoonessSake · 12/02/2011 11:20

erm, i know KK has had a history of drug use and so i suppose not being a great parent at times but what has jordan done that is worse than chris brown beating his partner?
