Kids and alcohol

Hubby and I were sitting eating dinner tonight with our twelve year old son. As always on a Friday evening we had opened a bottle of wine, my husband then stunned me by suggesting that we let our son have a small glass of wine with us!! To say I was angry was an understatement, he then said he should have suggested wine mixed with water and that most kids in France/Italy at around twelve years of age do this. Luckily my son did not want any wine, please tell me my hubby's is wrong.

I was offered wine mixed with water from about the age of 7 (French mother and this was about 40 years ago).

Didn't particularly like it but used to have a bit to seem 'grown up'.

Because I was 'allowed' alcohol when I was younger and I had no desperate need to over indulge when older and also be (secretly) I didn't really like the taste of it at the time had no great desire to get my hands on alcohol when older.

Do love a glass of red wine now but two is probably about my limited.
