To expect to be able to try out a pushchair before spending more than £500?

I went to Mothercare yesterday to buy a bra, but while there I had a look at double pushchairs. I was so disappointed that they only had a couple of umbrella fold ones, one tandem which could only take a newborn and a toddler, and a Phil and Ted - same problem.

I am expecting twins. Whe I asked the lady if the store in a nearby town had a bigger collection she told me no, they had a big selection here and I wouldn't see more than that in any other Mothercare. (It is a big store). They do others online so I could always look on there, apparently. Well, sorry, but I'm possible spending £500-£700 on a pushchair so expect to be able to try it first. She acted like my opion was outrageous. AIBU?

Any suggestions where I can look?

yanbu. Our mothercare did have a big selection so I was able to test drive them. I wouldn't spend £££ on one that I had't pushed.

What about John Lewis?

Fernie3 · 11/02/2011 16:27

Yanbu I had this problem too. I did order one and sent it back after trying it in my house when it became clear it wasn't what i wanted at all! So you could always do that.

geraldinetheluckygoat · 11/02/2011 16:30

are you anywhere near kiddicare? I think they have qiuite a few there to try...

OpheliaBumps · 11/02/2011 16:33

yanbu, we rejected our first choice as it was too big to fit in the boot of the car.

Try a local independent pram shop, mine (Chester) had a few, also Pramworld (Wigan), if you're NW based.

PrincessScrumpy · 11/02/2011 16:36

SW but I've discovered one in Dorset so we might pop down there. I'm thinking about the babby jogger select but it's lots of money. It fits the maxi cosi car seats too and I already have one of those from dd1!

Google Stroll On Baby. There's a few in the SW so might be one near you.

I have the baby jogger city select from them. It's fab. And they let you pay in installments. Wink

Also take a look at the mountasin buggy, ( I love mine!!!) For twins you can get a twin carrycot so the babies can snuggle up together or hold hands.Smile

and the peach blossom twin by iCandy, 1st choice for tandem option.

MrsMooo · 11/02/2011 17:30

YANBU at all, I've got the same problem trying to find somewhere local to me that has the BJMC... Funilly enough they only had the double

MrsMooo · 11/02/2011 17:30
  • I meant to add that it's woefull how few prems/buggies places actually have all round I think
twolittlemonkeys · 11/02/2011 17:32

We have this place near us (locally known as the Baby Farm because it's situated on a farm) and they have a huge range to try out plus they're cheaper than most places.

This is an excellent review of the city select. I was going to buy it without seeing it based on this review but luckily the pram shop ^^ opened just as we started looking properly.

shoshe · 11/02/2011 17:34

I have a Britax B Dual, it is fantastic for two babies, and as a cM I have had ALOT of double prams in my time.

I am in Dorset and found that Toys are us have lots of prams to try out.

If your close enough to me I can let you try out mine if you like Smile

nymphadora · 11/02/2011 17:40

I have a single mountain buggy & it's fab & love the idea of the carry cot for twins to go in together!

PrincessScrumpy · 11/02/2011 17:52

I love the fact the city select has them facing each other. I did look at the iCandy as dd1 had the iCandy Cherry which I love but it really is very expensive. This was supposed to be a cheap baby as we have all the stuff - now we need more than ever! Grin

i have an emmaljunga, (not twin) and have been absolutely delighted with it so if that is anything to go by the gorgeous twin one will be great.
