I have been blaming him.

He works with paint tinter and it often sets in clothes so will not wash out. He has recently thrown out 3 pairs of jeans because he's noticed the dark dye-like stains and I have said it must be coming off his work uniform............

But I have just wiped along the breakfast bar and being the domestic scutter that I really am, have just found a huge blob of dried-in blue paint.

definitley dont tell him. he doesn't need to know. just remove the paint and congratulate him after the next washload for being more careful at work

Look at the evidence OP. Although it is likely you have found the cause of the stain, without proper forensic tests you can't be absolutely certain that is what caused it, so any confession on your part may be inaccurate.
So don't tell him.
