He seemed a great guy of the old school

Was part of the TMS cricket broadcasts.

Had a dry sense of humour. And a low sense of drama.

Once said " I am sorry, but I cant get excited until I see the 4 horsemen of the
apocalypse coming over the hill."

Sad way to die in a fire which his wife survived. "Gabby"

I knew Trevor when I was a child, back when I used to help my mother with cricket teas at Chalkwell Park. He was always a kindly chap and had a totally lovely son, Kim, who also played on the same team. He had time to speak to people and will be sadly missed.

LatteLaddy

Yes I am sure that is true.

Older cricket fans will remember that Trevor Bailey batted all day in a stand with Willie Watson to save a test match for England "Gabby"

Very sad - I used to enjoy listening to him on TMS, very down to earth, and as you say Gabby - a dry sense of humour. A nice man, he'll be greatly missed.

BigGitDad · 11/02/2011 15:34

I remember as a kid listening to Trevor on TMS. Another one of that lost golden generation with some truly fantastic cricketers.
Nice to see some lovely tributes coming out for him. As I read, after Botham and maybe Greig probably the best English all rounder since the war.

Truckulente · 11/02/2011 15:37

He was great to listen to, along with BrIan Johnston.

They helped get me hooked on TMS.

cocoachannel · 11/02/2011 15:40

Very sad indeed. Such a tragedy and so traumatic for Greta.

RIP- thanks for the fond memories of listening to TMS on long car journeys during my childhood and helping me develop my love of the great game of cricket.

taintedpaint · 11/02/2011 15:46

It's very sad. :(

Gabby dear, you don't need to sign your name at the bottom of your posts. We can all see your name at the top of them.

HecateQueenOfWitches · 11/02/2011 16:13

Awful way to go, fire.

You have lost me there Gabby with your last post, but as a bloke who lives and breathes cricket it is lovely to see some mumsnetters who appear to enjoy the game too.

NormanTheForeman · 11/02/2011 22:35

I am also a cricket fan, and very sad to hear of the death of Trevor Bailey.
