The job I am currently in, Started at the beginning of january.

Now this is the first Job I have ever had where I don't want to die in a car crash on my way into work every morning, the people are awesome, I can do the job fantastically and there is such an awesome atmopshere it's unreal.

My job was meant to end at the end of March, which I was upset about but got used to the Idea, last week however I was told I was going to be kept on after March and become permenant I was excited beyond words and almost danced home...

Now, when I come into work today there is an email going around about enforced cuts by the government, "No big deail" thinks I "That wont affect me, thats only for projects and the like.."

No. As it turns out the almost 70% cut in funding means I no longer have a job at the end of March, since they wont have the extra money to pay for another member of staff.

So thank you David Cameron and your Government for runining the ONE job I have ever truly loved.

Awww thats totally rubbish. Really sorry about your job :( It happened to me a few years ago too, so i know how you feel.

It's pants! I really hope you can find another job you really enjoy super quick.

mamadiva · 11/02/2011 12:15

Oh shit nerdy :(

Is there anyway you could speak to your boss about a transfer within the company or if they could recommend a company where their would be a similair oppertunity and could put a good word in for you?

I really hate it when crap like this happens (and yes I would blame DC too :o)

Hope you find something soon and enjoy the time you have left there!

NerdyFace · 11/02/2011 12:19

Nothing that can be done within the company!

Like I say funding slashed like that they are un-able to hire anyone permenantly and they are having to let a few people go and some of the environment things we were working on are having to be Shelved.

On the plus side, my boss is willing to give me the most glowing reference he can!

This is crap. Sorry. I worry about this too. I love my job, its perfect in every way. But its a none statutory children's service so could go at any time. I had a letter to tell me that they are slashing the notice period to ONE WEEK too.

Its so toss at the moment!

OnEdge · 11/02/2011 12:21

That is such a shame, I have had an amazing job that I love for the past 3 years and they are very few and far between, so I can identify with ya.

NerdyFace · 11/02/2011 13:00

Well, my current plan is to kill Cameron with a Shovel, then walk cackling into the night.

Aside from that, I told a friend what was going on and she's paid for a train ticket for me to go down to London and stay with her and her friends over the weekend, where I shall be treated to a night out apparently!

So sorry Nerdy Sad

I have just heard that the couple counselling service my organisation provides for parents via Surestart has not had it's funding renewed for this year. We had a waiting list of couples wanting to use the service and had been getting very positive feedback from service users, also was showing statistically significant results for users' relationship and depression scores...

So very disappointing all round and I am also now out of a job. Although luckily am also currently on maternity leave from another position and so have some income.

But yes, bloody DC and Tories!!!

Sorry to hear that Nerdy. Same thing happened to me 6 years ago, except that the reason I didn't get the permanant job was that I was pregnant Angry.

But, 18 months ago, after trying for 5 years, I finally got a new job back at the same place and am so happy here!

So if you like the place, keep trying to get back! Hopefully it will work out eventually.
